Energy Bigwig blocks chargers with gas cars

You can’t make this stuff up.

Secretary Granholm had her minions block other people waiting in line to charge their EVs. They parked a gasoline powered car in the EV space even though others were waiting to charge their EVs. Apparently, she thought that was OK to keep citizens waiting while an EV car in her convoy was on the way. One person called the police.

Is it any wonder people are upset with our Federal government. One policy for the people, and a different one for the party big shots.

Her advance team realized there weren't going to be enough plugs to go around. One of the station's four chargers was broken, and others were occupied. So an Energy Department staffer tried parking a nonelectric vehicle by one of those working chargers to reserve a spot for the approaching secretary of energy.

PLANET MONEY

As carbon removal gains traction, economists imagine a new market to save the planet

That did not go down well: a regular gas-powered car blocking the only free spot for a charger?

In fact, a family that was boxed out — on a sweltering day, with a baby in the vehicle — was so upset they decided to get the authorities involved: They called the police.

That NPR interview was an interesting article. Good to see Ford is adopting Tesla’s system and some others are too.

They`re trying to rollout the tech too fast. Setting the cars aside issues like charging stations and grid to support them is another story. Wait until these cars are used more regularly and people are late for work or appointments. A station won't be the only thing blocked.

Here’s the government solution to the problem:

The situation was eventually resolved, with the family gaining access to a charging station while Granholm also charged her vehicle. However, the secretary’s solution was to push other people off the chargers and onto slower charging ports so the family and the secretary could recharge.
Did it every occur to these bureaucrats that the fair solution was for the Secretary of Energy to wait in line for her turn like everybody else? Apparently not.

Here’s the government solution to the problem:
That was kind of stupid especially if she was trying to show how easy it is to use an ev for travel. But use of an ev includes charging issues. And more charges will not solve the problem. One of the most common complaints so far with chargers in general is the amount of time it takes to charge a car for even a 30 mile trip home. Also saw one report where the bill for a public charging station was over $200.

The article doesn't say or even imply that Secretary Granholm "had her minions block other people waiting in line to charge their EVs. Rather, it sounds like this staffer took it upon him/her self to do this. A foolish, unkind, unfair move, obviously. But not one that the article suggests Granholm ordered.

What it says:
"Her advance team realized there weren't going to be enough plugs to go around. One of the station's four chargers was broken, and others were occupied. So an Energy Department staffer tried parking a nonelectric vehicle by one of those working chargers to reserve a spot for the approaching secretary of energy."
