Woolworths CEO was being interviewed by journalist on Monday. He walked off to get advice from his minder.
The questions were too hard hitting for him to be truthful.
Guess what? Today he resigned.
One would posit to say that the large majority of Corporations/Businesses are using corrupt practices and the ACCC(Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) are to all intents and purposes ineffective.
Being a reactive body instead of a proactive body.

I amended the last line
A reactive body only looks into stuff when someone makes a complaint
A proactive body will go out and make spot visits to companies/businesses unannounced and have a investigation into the businesses practices/compliance obligations.
 

We all have a choice, pay the price or look elsewhere. If you pay attention to the market, the cost of goods, it will be okay. In other words it is now your responsibility to find the best deal on everything you pay for.

I agree. Something I have started doing for the previous 2 years. Looking around, outside the monopolies.
A little dearer at times but I am prepared to go down that path.
 
Not any different here in the U.S. You can't really shop any where else because EVERYTHING has gone up in price. The only way to fight this sort of situation is to SWITCH to using something different than in the past. For example, rather than buy loaves of bread I now make a pancake, waffle, or tortilla and use these in place of bread. Lots less expensive since now I can make just the amount I need rather than buy a whole loaf.

Yes, a great way to save money is to start cooking all meals from scratch, not buying from supermarkets.
Using farmers markets, even growing own food in pots, Peppers, Chillies, Herbs, Tomatoes, Garlic, etc.
 
Considering that the average profit margin in a supermarket in the US is between 1-3%, does anybody find it odd that people who go on expensive vacations, cruises, buy top-of-the-line automobiles, pricey jewelry and otherwise spend money with abandon, complain long and loud about the price of food?

I'll add to this (excellent) comment. In a country where there is allegiance to capitalism, and that tries to have the least amount of regulation, what is actually wrong with a commercial enterprise "price gouging", or put into other words - maximizing profit? If people will pay $5 for a gallon of milk - why wouldn't you price it at that? Isn't it capitalism doing its thing?
