Entertainment industry and profanity

Many TV series and I watch a lot, constantly use the F word over and over again and many even the C word, I just turn it off!!
Just finished watching "Gray" a fabulous U.S.A series eight episode and was a joy to watch, with not ONE swear word!

Profanity does seem to be the new language of choice these days. Years ago, my husband and I were standing in line to get into a theater. These two blonde "all American girls" (late teens or early 20s) were in front of us and one was using the F word like crazy. Finally I asked her if she talked like that in front of her parents because we didn't want to hear it. She looked at me like I had three heads. But she didn't use it again. Sometimes when I'm walking down the street, I'll hear all kinds of foul language...and don't go into a McDonalds if there are some guys in there.

I absolutely hate the amount of profanity that is used in film and T.V. now. It's like the writers are little children who can finally swear without fear of being punished by their parents. I remember when actors were first allowed to say SOB (spelled out) on T.V. That was over used. Then it became other things. I also watched a show in which the F bomb was dropped in every other sentence...no lie. I got so tired of it but I really wanted to see the show because of the lead actor and actress.

Normally I'd just stop watching. I told my friend who had recommended it that maybe I'll just use closed captioning so at least I wouldn't have to hear it. I'm happy that the show didn't get a second season. There are many movies and shows (some highly acclaimed and even recommended by friends) that I've stopped watching because of the foul language. And I certainly won't pay for premium channels because foul language and gratuitous s*x proliferate there. Someone needs to let the writers know that foul language and vulgarity are not what makes a good script !

It is becoming inescapable.

One TV series that I really like ran for 3 seasons with only one character being consistently foul. I think they were desperate to make the old woman look "powerful" in some sense. But when the show got a new lease on life for 3 more seasons her character became a caricature and the foul words weren't even being used grammatically any more just to wedge a greater quantity into her dialog.

But the second 3 seasons were flat and the characters almost cardboard. The story arcs were almost as simplistic as a Hallmark movie. Despite a far higher budget it was clear to me that the production team had lost its mojo. It feels like fanservice for the most toxic element within the fan base.

we have just finished watching Virgin River 54 episodes on Netflix Virgin River (TV series) - Wikipedia
and not one swear word in it …such a pleasure to watch cant wait till season 6 is released
Its worth watching just the see the scenery which I believe was mainly shot in….i just cheated and looked it up

If I ever travelled out of Australia I’d head there for a visit

The show is actually filmed in Vancouver and select areas in British Columbia, such as Snug Cove in Bowen Island, Burnaby, or Port Coquitlam, as revealed by Country Living.
