Essential to ring up when policies increase

Do you always call up when any policy is automatically increased?
I always do and invariably get a good result.
Today a letter showed my car breakdown policy was being doubled, despite the fact I have not even called them out in the past year. So a five minute polite phone call, emphasising that I am a pensioner finding it hard to make ends meet and all was sorted, the price stays the same. I've saved £75.00. That's a lot of money to us, getting on for a week's groceries.

What is a "break down policy " ?? Explain for those of us who don't speak Brit ?? What does it cover ? JimB.

I always call to try to get it reduced and say I will switch to another provider. It used to work well but not anymore. Geigo raised my car insurance 20/month twice in the past year but I can’t find it cheaper anywhere else.

It’s a 16 year old car that only gets driven 2700 miles per year with no accidents, etc. I did read online that Amica is cheaper so it’s on my to do list.

Yes, I make that phone call. If the customer service rep is stubborn, I ask them to remove a few parts of the policy that "I'll probably never use" or "don't really need."

That always ends in me getting the original premium on the original coverage.

That didn’t work the last time I tried that with Geigo.
