There is a proposal in Europe that wants passenger bank information stored and made available to police under the guise of tracking potential terrorists.

Still a proposal but apparently the reactionaries are using the Charlie Hebdo attacks as justification.

The US requires quite a lot of sensitive and personal information from European passengers before they can fly in!

Believe it or not... I am more on the conservative side in the area of Homeland Security and government surveillance than many of my Liberal brethren. It doesn't bother me all that much. I am happy if some government agent knows when my dog has his grooming appointment, or listens to a conversation I am having about my dinner plans.. so long as they are also listening to conversations from people that are up to no good.

I'm with Quicksilver on this one. Not like I have very exciting phone conversations, anyway, unless you count my verbal engagements with Comcast!

I realize this is a big deviation from my normal "get the government out of my life" stance.

Well believe it or not... I've heard more Liberals and Progressives up in arms about this topic than I have heard Conservatives. But..as I said.. I suppose we should be very worried about our privacy... and our Constitutional rights, but if it's a choice of someone hearing me complain to my friend about my bunions... or me getting blown up in a building.... no contest.
