Like if you make a reference to Johnny Carson in a mixed age group, and the young people look quizzically at you as if asking, “Who?” What are some instances you can recall? What once everyday-famous people do today’s youth not know? 🤔

This happened to me recently. Someone complimented me on a dress jacket I was wearing. I told them it was a Johnny Carson jacket. They had no idea who I was talking about… 😩

Who ?...seriously...who ?

My grandson and his wife named their baby “Maverick”.
When my daughter told me this, I was horrified….. “What ? They named him after a COW ?” ! ! !

She had NO idea what I meant (and she grew up with horses, even); so I explained that a maverick is an unbranded steer in the old west.
She said that Maverick is a guy on television that my grandson and his wife like watching, and he is a hero kind of character, so they named their son after him.
Even the Maverick television program is old, but there are probably re-runs to watch.

Anyway, I promised not to tell them what I thought, and then looked it up, and apparently, the cattle were first called that because of some long ago cattle rancher whose name was actually Maverick; so I guess it is an okay name for my great-grandson, after all.

Your new avatar is so cute.

Johnny Carson reruns are presently still on the air at 10:00 pm weeknights. I tune it in once in awhile. So young people can still be aware of who he is if they watch television.
I caught one of his TV shows a few months ago and Burt Reynolds was on. Probably from the 1980s, when BR was in his prime and it was so funny. I miss those.

I have a vintage Joe Namath jacket, too. In the 1960’s, this former NY Jets quarterback was the hottest guy around. Nowadays, most young people know Broadway Joe as the old guy who does Medicare commercials… 😩

He was my football hero, back in the late 1960's and early 1970's. That's when the Jets were my favorite team in football. Super Bowl III is still my favorite Super Bowl.

Expressions can date you rapidly, too. My older sister’s generation said things like “See you later, alligator” and “What’s buzzin’, Cousin?” Today we know that’s not cool to say…uh oh, I just dated myself!! Are you hip, man? Groovy, baby! ☮️
