As for your balloon bringing down a plane "full of innocent passengers" ... at least a 6-8 ft. balloon is much better seen than the drones that the airlines and military are concerned about. And much easier to avoid ... if the balloon even stays up long enough, for heaven's sakes!

My son and his friend had a hot air balloon. Had one time where they had to put down on a driveway in a rather ritzy area. But balloonists do carry champagne, generally for first-time riders, so they and the homeowners and homeowners' neighbors had toasts in the driveway and all went away happy. [ once the Chase Crew got there ]

Regarding the balloon, my concern would be for the wildlife that's going to possibly be impacted by that thing coming down. Like what if a whale were to accidentally swallow it or pieces of it or whatever is tying it closed gets wrapped around a seals neck....,or just the fact that it adds to the 'islands' of plastics that are already floating around in the ocean currents.

Lately, as a result of the pile of stuff that I have to find some way to get rid of sitting in the middle of my barn, I've have been struck by all the unnecessary purchases that I've made through out my life

Debby, I hear you on "all the unnecessary purchases I've made in my life". It'd be okay if our kids wanted this stuff, but they don't.
