Ever heard of Ernie Pyle?

Grampa Don

Yep, that's me
Ernie Pyle was a newspaper columnist and war correspondent during WWII. We didn't have a lot of books in our house when I was a kid, but my Mom had all of Ernie's. I have a copy of one of his that I bought at a library used book sale. If you want to know what it was like for the foot soldiers read Ernie.

The other day I discovered that I could read or download free his Ernie Pyle in England. He spent a few months there in the winter of 1940/41 during the blitz and describes what it was like. It's a good read and really gives you a feel for what the British went through.

Ernie was killed by a sniper during the battle for Okinawa.
