Ever Take Note When You Aged The Most? Or What Caused It?

Did you ever take note of when or what "aged" you the most? Not so much one disease or event. I'm talking slowing down, the gray hair, wrinkles, spots, joint problems etc. For me it seems to come after minor illnesses especially stomach problems-nothing major but if my stomach acts up by the end of the week I wound up with a few extra grays, wrinkles, stiffness etc And as an adult I've been rarely bed ridden with the flu, virus, colds etc. I tend to get tired rather experience the full blown symptoms of runny nose etc. It seems like what ever my body was fighting included lost battles to the effects of aging. It's seems like a medical or biological condition has caused most aging for me rather than a clock.

I have noticeably aged in the past two years or since I turned 80. I have lost muscle mass & weight. My skin has changed. The doc tells me that all the changes are a part of my diagnosis of RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. I have always prided my self on being well groomed but it seems harder to do this now. I have to work at it. I no longer can take the long strides walking that I took two years ago. Growing 0ld is definitely not for sissies.

True story. I've found that the workout at the gym that used to yield impressively shaped muscle groups, nowadays mainly yield sore muscles....

Yes, last fall when I had my bike wreck.

I was in ER for a day, had 2 brain scans, and bleeding on the frontal lobe. Neurosurgeon said my helmet saved me. I missed a concrete buffer by a foot.

I take it slower now, don't go down hills as fast now. I've noticed a difference in my confidence. I don't take on jobs around the house as much as before.
I don't ride as much now, maybe 15 miles per week, whereas before it was 45 or 50 per week.

I still don't know who found me in the bushes or how long I was out. I've awakened to the fact that I'm older now and should start acting like I'm in my 70's.

Usually I have not been vane about my appearance, but I hate my turkey neck and "wings: under my arms. That being said, I have felt most old when my OA has forced me to stop doing things I enjoyed, like mowing the lawn and getting down into the garden to work.

After 2 1/2 years of my wifes losing battle with cancer while at the same time caring for her 90 yr old mom with Alzheimer's who asked at least 5 times a day "what's wrong with my little girl, why can't you fix her". After she passed, I felt very, very old, and ready for a long dirt nap. Then chose to move closer to my elderly mom to provider her a safe place to live out her days. Now that she has passed, I feel even more useless, tired and just plain burned out.... My 9" long chin whiskers have gone gray, my desire to date is about non existent and I'm hoping they legalize medical pot so I can zone out and endlessly not give a damn....:drool1:

At age 75, when I started taking blood thinners, my arms began to bruise at the slightest bump. Now the skin is so wrinkly and thin that it takes nothing to cause a bruise. And the turkey neck stares back at me in the mirror. COPD has slowed me way down. Can't do a lot of the things I use to.

Probably in the last three years. I took care of my Mom in the last months of her life. She was a very non complaining person but seeing loved ones pass does age a person. I'm 72 now and can still do everything I did at the age of 40 but it takes me forever and I have sore and achy joints at the end of the day, especially my knees, no doubt because I fell off a ladder and tore the meniscus in my knee a few years back. . But as long as I have my heating pads, and Epson salts for my bath I usually bounce back in a day or two after a day of yard work.

I'm 67 in a few months. Can hardly believe it frankly but there you go. I have felt much less energy this year. I'm also generally more tired and my mood is not the best at times. I had the flu about three months ago and felt after that I had lost something of my old self health wise when I got over it.

Also the crepe skin as mentioned about - just kicking in. *sigh*

..the only thing is - think of the alternative to getting old!

I'll be 78 in a month, and when my husband passed a little over 4 years ago, that's when I started aging. Weight loss, age spots, hearing loss, wrinkles in face, arms always bruised, depression- the whole "kit 'n caboodle". I even gave up coloring my hair and let it go grey (which now, I like).

Yard work and the stairs to get into the house has kept me in good condition for my age.

It also helps to remove my glasses while looking in the mirror. (I can't see all the wrinkles.)
