One of the sites I follow is called Bad Astronomy, which is misleading because it's actually good astronomy by an actual astronomer. Today's article had an image that stunned me and I wanted to share it. Here it is.

It was made by a radio telescope array called MeerKat in South Africa and covers one degree of the southern sky. Every dot is a galaxy, each with billions of stars. The things we are learning about the universe boggle my mind.

I get frustrated with all the new scientific research. There is so much unknown. There is a huge question mark over our understanding of science. We've really only begun to examine the universe. And what we have figured out is fantastic, and way beyond our imagination. I kind of wish it were hundreds of years into the future, so some of those question marks would have answers.
 
Our knowledge of the universe is advancing at an amazing rate. I just bought a used book called The Guide to the Galaxy. It was written 25 years ago and is now mostly out of date. The more questions that get answered, the more there are to answer.

It must have been comforting when we believed the Earth was a flat disk and the heavens were a sphere that rotated around us. Now we know it's not that simple by a long shot. The universe is more vast than we can comprehend, and it's a violent place. It's our privilege to be able to explore and wonder at it.
