Barking spiders, really?
Everything is scary in Australia

We’d be over run by ants / flies and mosquitoes if it wasn’t for spiders 
We’ve seen some scary looking spiders living in a rural area but very few actually bite
We’ve got a wood burning slow combustion stove for heating and we often find sliders in the wood ,where our 10+ years resident sleepy lizard lives

They don't need to be "deadly" to be effective at killing people. I know I would have a heart attack if I saw one up close.

Spiders in Arizona on the highway that a shovel would work to remove. Never saw one move though!
Iguana lizards the same way, had one in a lil bedroom in the early 90's. Never saw it move either, but it did.
It had a rope bridge across the rooms ceiling.

You obviously haven't been to the Adirondacks in upstate NY. Our spiders may not be as large but we have poisonous spiders and snakes here in the forests and lakes of the Adirondacks.U need to stay inside in N.Y.
And not to mention the rats in NYC
. Trust me, New Yorkers have plenty of exposure to nature.

I don’t know if they were poisonous or not but a few years ago on a job to remove a heating oil storage tank from a basement in a bank owned dilapidated house in East Orange, NJ my work partner and I encountered about a half dozen pancake sized black spiders that made incredibly thick sticky floor to ceiling spiderwebs. I couldn’t believe my eyes, never before seeing spiders that big. Those spiders were also very bold, seeming to challenge us to step on them, and if we tried to mash one it would scurry away into a crack in the foundation.

Some international visitors make mistakes of kicking coconut shells on beaches In tropical Queensland cause huge spiders can live in coconut shells ( Queensland has huge snakesThey don't need to be "deadly" to be effective at killing people. I know I would have a heart attack if I saw one up close.

Way back when I was first married we bought a really nice house. It was a tri level and it came with all appliances including the washer/dryer in the basement. The people we bought it from were incedibly clean as was the basement.
Going upstairs one day after putting the clothes in the washer, something caught my eye...a huge (pancake size for sure) brown and black striped spider all hairy with it's friend right behind. I had just been standing where they were! I have no idea where they came from but they were healthy looking and unafraid of me. They were not escaped 'pets' as I asked the people.

We visited a “ natural“ crocodile farm when in QLD in 2006 , Home - Koorana Crocodile Farm - Home to over 3,000 crocs! I can tell you crocodiles can weigh up to a Ton in weight ..I’ve got photos .l will try to find it to add .
This Croc was apprently know as a beast cause every-time they supplied him with a partner …he drowned them

I subscribe to staying OUT of water if any possibility of shark or gator / croc .
