Expensive Blood Thinners. Do you take them?

I like not having to take Coumadin but dislike the cost of Xarelto. I have a really good drug plan but
my co-pay today for a 30 day supply was $165.00. The two other major blood thinners are just as expensive and must be taken twice a day. Just one a day with Xarelto. My co-pay for a couple of other drugs that I take is only $3.00 each.

What are the advantages of the newer drug, just that it's taken once a day instead of twice? How much was the Coumadin?

Alcohol also thins the blood in case you didn't know.

So, instead of spending all that money on meds, I almost always have a vodka & club soda every evening and maybe even TWO.

Also it tastes a lot better than swallowing a bunch of pills.

Just thought I'd mention it in case you were not aware.

But, you do it your way and I'll do it my way.

Have a good evening.

I hope no one with A Fib takes your advice my feathery friend, they would be headed for a stroke. Same with taking aspirin in lieu of thinners.

Aspirin will burn a hole in your stomach.

Like I said~~~~~ You do it YOUR way & I'll do it MY way.

I remember you talking about all the wine you drink, which contains alcohol.

Doesn't that concern you?

FYI. There are certain medical conditions that alcohol and aspirin are totally ineffective because they do thin the blood they will prevent clotting. I drink my fair share of alcohol on a daily basis.

It's all relative. Next time you see one of these Xarelto "Ask your Doctor" commercials on TV....which probably costs the makers of Xarelto about $250,000, be secure in the knowledge that you are helping sustain the Pharmaceutical and Television industries.
