Experiences with home ice cream maker?

I'm considering giving a home ice cream maker as a holiday gift and would like to know about your experiences with one. What brand was it? Was it fairly easy to use? Did you enjoy the result? Did you use often? How long before the novelty wore off?

I've read many reviews for Cuisinart ice cream makers on Amazon, and the experiences are all over the place between the different models. Anything you can tell me to help with this decision would be very welcome! Thanks ....

For one or two people I would go with the simple little hand crank, one quart, Donvier ice cream maker.

The two drawbacks are a little hand cranking and the need to pre chill the ice cream container in the freezer, other than that they work fine and are easy to clean.

IMO the novelty will wear off pretty quickly and most folks will be on the couch with a pint of Ben & Jerry's after two or three tries.

Take a look.

I use it twice weekly. Easy to use, and it makes wonderful ice cream and frozen yogurt. The best part is that I control all the ingredients.

Thanks nvtribefan and BlondieBoomer. This is Ice-21 Cuisinart model that gets the best reviews on Amazon too. I'm happy to hear that you like it as well. And you're spot on about controlling the ingredients, which is why I want to give it, specifically to enjoy ice cream (or sorbet) with less sugar.

I think you two have sold me on going with that one. The price is pretty good too.
