Extreme Weather Conditions Worldwide.

We have all seen the conditions in Texas and been amazed
by them!

What about the Middle East?

Israel, Lebanon and Jordan to name the ones in the short
video below, 6" to 1' is the amounts in the film, there will
be others, all over the area.

Thinking about the surprise of snow where it doesn't belong
got me thinking, since the majority of vehicles are not moving
anywhere in the World because of the Pandemic, perhaps the
lack of exhaust gases gathering at the top of our atmosphere
has allowed it to cool down, there is little heat up there now
which is allowing the snow and hail to for more easily.

Mike.

Climate change is happening all over the globe...not just here. Our U.S. networks do a pretty poor job of reporting international news, so most people don't know just how bad things are in other parts of the world. I like to tune into BBC to get a broader perspective. According to some of the weather reports, this polar vortex which hit here this past week might well stay intact and give Europe a real blast in coming days.

This afternoon I was watching a report about some major riots taking place in Myanmar, after their military coup....and those people are really having to deal with some serious problems.

Yes my son and I were discussing that very theory regarding the odd weather changes. It makes sense.

We had a very hot Summer this year as you know Mike... for those of us who usually go abroad for hot weather holidays there was no need even if we could have... it was far to hot for a land where AC's are very rare in homes

... . There were no planes going over, the skies were completely blue almost constantly, and we wondered the same thing about whether it's pollution in the air or even on the roads that was causing our out of ordinary hot 6 months of summer

Folks, these weather extremes are nothing new. For example SC and much of the south experienced sub-zero temperatures before in recorded history, 1985 and 1899. People get all worked up about weather extremes because they have little or no knowledge of historical patterns. In addition, the media is prone to hyperventilate and exaggerate, if not prevaricate, on the subject to get the viewership numbers that begets ad revenue. Compared to some of the weather I experienced in my younger years, this is nothing, the hoopla is laughable and that some states got caught with their infrastructure pants down predictable. It wasn't too many decades ago that the "experts" were saying some of you would never see snow again. Remember, in a bureaucracy such as government, education and/or advocacy groups; funding and attention follow the perception of a crisis. If none really exist, the chances are good the perception of one will be created.

The amounts of snow that we are seeing this year,
takes me back to when I was a youth, 1940s - 1950s,
there were very few cars on the roads after the war,
so not much pollution, there were coal-fired power
stations, but in general the air was clearer and the
snow deeper than in the past few years, I read that
some bits of the River Thames froze, though I don't
know where.

People have been commenting on, complaining about, and speculating over the weather since the days of Noah. Only in recent years has it become highly profitable for so many. ;)
When I was at school many years ago, a lady teacher
was telling us all about the weather and why people
always complained about it.

Way back in ancient history an Asian woman was going
to fête in Japan, she wanted to wear her new paper dress,
so she consulted a weatherman who could foretell weather
and asked what the weather would be, he said "Bright Sunshine",
so she wore the dress.

There were heavy storms all day and her dress was ruined, she
was very upset at the humiliation.

The next day she went and saw the weatherman and had a big
row with him, ending with, "I curse you and all who follow you
in your profession for all time, nobody will ever like your weather
again, no matter if it is sunny or rainy".

Now you know.

well here in the north side of the city we regularly get snow in winter... I didn't realise you didn't get it south of the river...

..and although we've had a lot this year... this was just 2 winters ago...

I remember one year when I got stuck and had to stay over night in Chicago's O'Hare airport because of the weather. I believe the year was 1978. With no other travel option available, I eventually got downtown to Union Station the next day to take a train south. The two hour train ride took about 10 hours and when I finally got into town, the cab couldn't get any closer than a mile from the house. When I finally reached the house, snow had drifted to the roof and you could barely see the place. That was a snow and power event worthy of some attention. The current stuff that had the news people all breathless is hilarious by comparison.

We get snow south of the river hollydolly, a bit like
this picture of your place, just enough to get the bus
drivers not driving.

What I was referring to, was the amount of the falls,
the depths, up to 2 or 3 feet overnight in Scotland
where I lived at that time, also the places that are
getting it now who never or only once in a lifetime
got any.

Maybe with the gap in the normal amount of traffic
of all kinds is helping to balance the "Global Warming".

oh yes I remember very deep snow almost every winter growing up in Scotland...

It's the pandemic. People are supposed to stay in, not drive anywhere and without a car's carbon emissions spewing into the atmosphere warming it up, snow and cold are the result. I've never shoveled as much snow as I have this year.
🙁

I remember when my mom and dad were getting older they used to say they never saw the moon in a certain place in the sky before, or never saw it rain in January before, or never saw a rainbow appear in December before. I used to roll my eyes and say, oh my.

exactly things are constantly changing......... i remember parents and grandparents saying these things as well

my area used to have regular knee high plus snow ever since i can remember............... for the last 7 or so years barely over 2 inches at a time and mostly rain and moderate temps ......
an area in same state barely had snow for decades then last 3 years has had storms that crippled them as they never planned on snow so they simply do not plow cause they think it will melt in a day etc......

weather patterns change.... have since earth began ....

Last Monday, when the power went out, it was -3 degrees and Tuesday it was -6..

This past Monday it was 70 degrees and today is going to be 79!!!
