Facebook Is Bothering Me!

I never joined Facebook because I didn't want to be in any "social media", yet they seem to think that I'm a member and are bothering me with messages!

I don't know how to reply and tell them to remove me from their list. They want an email address and a password just to allow me to reply!

Maybe I should just ignore their messages and they'll get the idea.....?

Hal

Are you getting those messages in your email? I never belonged to facebook, and don't intend to join. I do find sometimes if I'm browsing the web and looking at something that's on a facebook page, I may get a pop up saying to register to read or look further. That's when I move on.

To deactivate your account:

  • Click the account menu
    assets
at the top right of any Facebook page
  • Select Settings
  • Click General in the left column
  • Choose Manage your account and then scroll down to click Deactivate your account
If you deactivate your account your profile won’t be visible to other people on Facebook and people won’t be able to search for you. Some information, such as messages you sent to friends, may still be visible to others.
If you’d like to come back to Facebook after you’ve deactivated your account, you can reactivate your account at anytime by logging in with your email and password. Keep in mind, if you use your Facebook account to log into Facebook or somewhere else, your account will be reactivated. This means your Facebook profile, including things like your friends, photos and posts, will be completely restored. Remember that you'll need to have access to the email you use to log in to reactivate your account.
To permanently delete your account: Permanently deleting your account means you won't ever be able to reactivate or retrieve any of the content or information you've added. If you'd like to permanently delete your account with no option for recovery, please contact us.

Unfortunately, you can't delete your account without logging in and, as I read it, Hal doesn't know what his password is so he can't lot in.

About the only thing you can do in this case, is the next time you get an email from them, click on the "spam" button and all emails from them will be sent to your spam folder. Then you can just empty the spam folder periodically. I've had to do that with some senders that make it absolutely impossible to opt out of emails.

If you've never had an account, it might be worth your time to contact their customer support to make sure no one else is using your information.
Don't click on any links in messages you receive- go directly to their website.

I Keep getting emails from Facebook saying there are some unread messages for me. I don't have a facebook account. I'm 99.9% sure it's just phishing emails.

Pappy, I don't have an account to deactivate!

it's a phishing scam as toomuchstuff said. get them all the time. mark as spam and let them go to trash. Annoying but part of the crap one has to deal with.
I'm not the techie one in the family but I'm willing to bet that the message doesn't really come from face book. There are some mighty sophisticated phishing scams out there.

I'll just dump them in the SPAM toilet!

Speaking of SPAM, many who regard something as lousy will compare it to the lunchmeat SPAM, meaning something that they wouldn't eat.

Well I happen to enjoy fried SPAM!

I don't get emails, but everybody and his mother wants my telephone number, even though they know it. From what I understand, which ain't a whole hell of a lot. They need two kinds "proofs", "admissions" or "signatures" from you, so that all the information they have gathered about you, can be confirmed by you as you. You have to say 'this' is my email address, and 'this' is my telephone number. Supposedly by the "laws of the internet", with out those two confirmations from you, all their info about you can't be used. Again, this is what I was told.
