now ...wants to pull it....I don't want to do that. (yet, anyway ) anyone have any experience good or bad in overcoming an infected failed root canal #30--???

I swear the more I research dentists seems like everyone one has horror stories about previous misadventures with them. (several for me alone)-stands to reason, I suppose, many many different and mysterious factors and metabolisms to deal, with sinus's etc...

and any information on holistic or alternative dentists would be welcome...aside from what is available to me on the net-

Thank you all -

I am determined to exhaust my options, if any, before giving up on this tooth.

I don't know of any alternatives either. As for myself the more I can get yanked out at my age the better off I am. Dentures are expensive but doesn't compare to how those dentists can empty your wallet in other ways. I've seen many people in their 80's and 90's suffering through dental procedures on teeth that had been worked on for years and now have to be removed anyway. Some to feeble to even get to the dentist.

Was born with inherited soft teeth & spent untold hours & $ getting drilled, filled root canaled, crowned, got a partial & finally threw in the towel about 10 years ago & got full regular dentures. I luckily never got an infection. I was in the middle of a root canal one day when I hear a grating noise (you know how loud all those procedures sound inside your head), the dentist said " ooooopppps! " & she had split the dang tooth in half, unrepairable. She immediately called up an oral surgeon, sent me there immediately & he pulled out the pieces.
When I did get the last out & set up for dentures, I went to a Denturist, who was expensive but fine tuned them till I hardly knew I was wearing them. Lasted all this time till I bet into s hard crust & broke the upper; in the process of building .& fitting a new one . Even if implants had been readily available back then, I don't think I would have gone that route.
And I sincerely hope your infection clears up! If you know of any "alternative" health care providers, even a chiropractor, might ask them for dentist recommendations.

It would be easier to find a wife/husband life partner than a dentist (or doctor or lawyer or car mechanic ) it is a crap shoot ...odds for finding a partner one in 26 that means you have to have a dates with 25 several times first...got news fur ya ..I dont have that kind of time or teeth. thanks- all of the above are NOT created equal and one size does NOT fit all...thanx all. will bump along....

I understand Paxton' frustration with how hard it is to find a solution that fits ones self individually. & at my age have learned that I have little or NO patience or time for any solution for any of my problems that requires a lot of trial & error.

based on my informal research turns out many many people have horror stories related to dental/dentist misadventures ...ever talk to anyone over many years who have had only good experiences ??? I have not....ever--

I completely understand your reluctance. Dentists make mistakes also but have high powered drills and sharp, pointy objects. I get it. I spent about 3 hours at an office with a dentist trying to extract a tooth that didn’t want to be extracted. After that I didn’t see a dentist for about 5 years and never got the tooth replaced. The freezing was wearing off, it was horrid.

I’d go to a regular doctor and get some good antibiotics and I’m really against antibiotics but an infected root canal is more serious than you’re giving it credit. You could potentially give your entire body an infection if that gets into your bloodstream and goes systematic.

You will then need some probiotics to replace all the good bacteria being killed
There are also natural things that kill infections successfully ...

- garlic
- tea tree oil
- peppermint oil
- neem oil
- oil of oregano
- ionic Silver
- salt water
- golden seal root or extract
- grape seed oil

There are holistic doctors that are qualified practitioners who can guide and help you through this. Those are the steps I would consider if you truly can’t see a dentist

Thank you ...I have had a good talk with myself basically what your saying except ...tell it goodbye stop whining and move forward I am swilling coconut and oregano oil as I now type.--- small price to pay for the good health I enjoy and work at maintaining...thanks ..

it will never be cured that I can find....if so I would take that route...

sooo tomorrow will go make arrrangments...

but you only have part of the story the previous implant infection removal consequent root canal on this tooth and bridge that doesn't work well....

intended or not...one thing sometimes leads to another and not always positive...especially with dentists---as I said more unfortunate in the end negative stories than positive... but mostly thanks to my own initiative. I have prevailed in spite of em.

Swishing with coconut oil mixed with oil of oregano is EXCELLENT. Coconut oil is antibacterial as well as anti fungal and will help cleanse the wound and shrink the inflammation. That’ was a smart move. The mouth is in close proximity to the brain.
It’s good that you are considering getting a professional second opinion as you are healing. Good news. Take care of that.

Never had a failed root canal but had recommended one be redone to replace a crown. A waste and set off a set of issues that I never caught up too. Infected root canal sounds like could be a leaking cap or crown or one that wasn't set low enough allowing stuff underneath then in to tooth. Or an 'incomplete' one-did they miss something?

It was cracked--and it is now gone...simple deal had a really talented young guy (not yet burned out)--just guessing 90 seconds....three pieces one and a half hours ago- ice now and stopping bleeding will take some ibeprofen...and on to ..."now what?"

--little reluctant to do the partial bridge however I suspect that is my only reasonable choice. no hurry. but i really really did not like losing this tooth have had good luck for 7 decades...but worked at it...anyway done deal...

I am intact otherwise healthy -small price to pay...I am indeed thankful, make no mistake about it...thanks for your tips...

I believe most of the stuff on the net, regarding these types of issues needs a heavy heavy dose of laxitives....this forum excepted of course..

Good to hear you had the tooth removed Paxton, will likely save you a lot of grief in the future, and healthier that way. :help: The picture is too small to see the haircut, maybe a larger before and after picture will make it easier for folks to comment. :)

I've only had one root canal performed by an endodontist who was awesome and I had no problems. Clove oil is good for pain, while calendula is good for any kind of oral infection. I don't know of any practising holistic dentists. A good endodontist may be able to help. Teeth are super important and worth taking care of.
