My biggest problem was deciding where to put this. While i don't expect anyone to disclose anything they are not comfortable talking about the reality is this could move into a realm that excludes it from the 'lighthearted' General Discussions. The importance of mental health (and self-awareness a big factor in that) could put it in 'Health Discussions'. But since it's a 'spin off' i felt it would be best to put this here. It might serve as a reminder to maybe talk to younger family members, especially if they ask any kind of question about your childhood or about their grandparents.
Most of us have a personal narrative and sense of self that grew out of how we were raised, what we experienced, were told and thought--tho as children we might not have had the full story on any of the family dynamics and history. Have you ever had to rethink how you thought about family and yourself because you found out something you'd been told wasn't true, or maybe truer than you thought it was, because you learned--usually quite by accident talking to some family member, info you had not had till that moment? Would like to hear what you're willing to share.
For a better idea of what 'family lore' is i refer you to two movies which demonstrate more than explain it in dry way neuroscientists and psychologists would.
Big Fish (2003) - IMDb
Secondhand Lions (2003) - IMDb
