"The family of Alain Delon has announced that they will not euthanize the French actor’s dog and bury it with him, denying his dying wish.

Delon’s children revealed the news on Tuesday, two days after their father passed away on August 18 at the age of 88, in an interview with French network BFMTV. They also spoke to The Brigitte Bardot Foundation, confirming the 10-year-old Belgian Malinois, Loubo, would not be put down.

“No worries for Loubo!” the organization dedicated to protecting domestic and wild animals wrote on X on Tuesday, August 20."

Yikes. Guy didn't want his dog grieving, so had a last wish of having the dog euthanized so it could be buried in his arms.

I get it, he loved the dog. But this seems a step too far. Poor Loubo!

That has to be the most outlandish and cruel thing I've heard in some time. I realize there is historical precedent if we look back far enough, but wow.

But then... people will dump unwanted slave animals in the country, lock them up for hours in hot cars, beat them when nobody is looking, etc.

I don't think i could do what Alain did, but I understand it a little bit. It depends on several things, the dog's health, the dog's life expectancy, the amount of attachment the dog has to it's owner.

I have had two dachshunds and both were so attached to me that I simply couldn't go away from them even for one night. I was told by the owner of the kennel where I left my first dachshund over night that she had cried without stop all night and that I should never try to leave her again.

I left my current dog for three days, here at home, with my son who she loves and who lives here, and yet, I had to cut my vacation short because she had stopped eating and had gone into a catatonic state.

I've heard humane society people say that it is very hard to place dachshunds with new owners because some of them they just want to sit and wait for their original owners to come back and get them.

Of course this is not every dachshund, but enough so that it's known as a breed problem. My girl is 14 now, no teeth, almost blind. I'm pretty sure that if I died suddenly she would go into a decline, refuse to eat and be gone within a week, but I hate to think of her going through that and euthanasia might be kinder.

What an asshole. I googled him and according to the internet this dude was worth about $200 million. He could have easily set up a fund so that the dog would be well taken care of for the rest of it's life. But no, he wants it killed and buried with him. Hope he rots in Hell. Of course I don't believe in that shit, but if I did.............

After the death of an Egyptian pharao his wife(s) and all his servants had to be killed for the reason to be with him in his next life. It seems that Alain Delon had a similar attitude.

I found this story on a vet's site as well as a veterinarian telling about several dogs who died within a few weeks after their owners' deaths, even after being fed through IV's after they quit eating.

"My grandfather died a week ago, we were all saddened but the one mourning the most seemed to be his dog. We all live in the same home, though he was the one tending to it the most. Since my grandfather's death the dog refused to eat, drink, or even acknowledge our presence. It just laid down with it's eyes open. We had to hand feed it and give it water with a syringe but it didn't really cooperate as it was mostly still. We gave it one of grandfather's shirts for it's bedding as that may help it cope and remember him. We found him in the yard dead, one week later. This was by no means an ill dog or an old dog, he was getting vet checks regularly. "

I'm sure this man left plenty of money to his already rich relatives and the cost of care was not an issue. Wrong or right, I think his intent was to keep the dog from suffering. He had said he didn't want his dog to be one of those who wouldn't leave his owner's grave.

I think the "assholes" are Alain Delon's adult children who have so casually ignored his dying wishes and then let the whole world know about the problem and revile their father.

If all the people who are so outraged about this one ten-year old dog, would go to their local pound and save one of the thousands of young dogs on it's way to the gas chamber it might be better. Or maybe not have that dead cow for supper.

Prior to his death, I don’t know how he was thought of. Now his name will always be associated with being selfish. He could have simply stated that he wanted his dog‘s ashes interred within the grave once it was gone.

My great uncle got a spaniel when it was just a couple months old. He named him Mello. Mello was 9 or 10 years old when my uncle died, and his son, my cousin Kyle, adopted Mello. He was really forlorn, so Kyle played a video of his former master on a laptop to see if that would help. Mello insisted on watching that video several times a day for several weeks (he'd paw at the laptop).

Mello gradually kind of came out of his deep funk, and asked for the laptop less and less until watching the video became his bedtime-only routine for almost a year. He had some good times...Kyle and his family would take him to the lake and on hikes and stuff, but he was never quite as lively and playful as he was before my uncle died. He lived for another four years, though.
