What are your favorite ways to spend your leisure time?

I enjoy nature walks and amateur photography. Anything artsy and craftsy appeals to me too. Going for a pleasure drive - remember those? Meeting new people. Meeting up with my friends somewhere for lattes and stimulating conversation. Reading a good book. Meditating. Shopping. Going to yard sales and finding unwanted treasures. Watching tennis or golf. Exploring something new. And sleeping. Zzzz...

How about you?

I remember when my husband and I were dating we liked to buy a bag of potato chips and a coke and just drive all over the country roads of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I still like to do that although the price of gas is much higher now and we are driving around in California and not as often as we used to. LOVE yard sales and thrift stores. Reading is my main passion and I usually read 1 or 2 books a week. We try to meditate every day and it's really relaxing and beneficial. My husband and I read a book together out loud and try to make it through a chapter every day or so. He spends a lot of time out in his shop messing around and I am usually on the computer in the house during that time. I paint and like to take photos also. I have a rock garden in front of our house and my husband and others help me find nice rocks to go in it. I love music and almost always have some going. I spend a lot of time researching alternative health practices or the types of things you'd hear about on the Coast To Coast radio program. I print off and file the information or write about it in notebooks. It's just something I have fun doing. There is a lot more I am interested in but I guess these are what I'm doing most of the time now.

The iPad has allowed me to pursue my reading interests and to pursue my obsession with becoming an above average chess player...

Yes, there are many sites and one can play people from all over the world! I have played some chess over the years and travelled to different locations to play in tournaments (Vegas, Reno, Alaska, etc.). Now that I don't travel anymore internet chess allows me to participate daily and it is great fun. I love it! :love_heart:

Pretty much the same as you Chic, but without the meditating and the tennis and golf (LOL , that would put me to sleep)

I'm an avid amateur photographer...with a very average ability...but it's my passion. I love to drive around southern England visiting the quaintest villages..and learning their histories. I'm fortunate that I can do a lot of that on my doorstep living in a village surrounded by many other villages..dating back to 1200AD some of them!! All my life I've been a voracious reader, but now apart from reading online, I find I have to keep my reading until bedtime otherwise it puts me straight to sleep ..

I lunch out often , cafe's restaurants, but mainly make it a mission every other weekend to find the prettiest pub gardens to have Sunday lunch just the 2 of us or with friends and if there's Cricket being played on the Village green then I'm in 7th heaven watching it.....I love shopping in Curio shops and vintage shops...and I can never pass a charity shop without having a browse...

I also collect , and buy and sell vintage Bakelite telephones

I'm passionate about Dogs and help out at local boarding kennels once a week..cleaning out, feeding and walking the dogs (although not in recent weeks because of my back injury sadly)..

Further to that I love my computer..and my friends in it...

I'm still Employed full time for a major international Charity , and my o/h works almost double in his job so how we fit everything in I never know..but we do.. :D

I agree with Ralphy. The IPad has let me choose the books I want and I do read a lot. It has also put me in touch with good friends all over this world. That, in itself, is an amazing thing for me.

I also like to collect old items from the 40s and 50s. Items that I had as a child are my favorite to collect.

A passionate amateur photographer. I love to read, and I've been on a mystery kick recently but I read many kinds of books. Almost all are on my Kindle. Love to cycle, now more than ever with our new long distance bikes. Love to spend time on SF and FB. I'm a very inconsistent meditater. Love to go to the cinema, and also go out to eat or to an old, charming pub. A serious gym rat. Love to wander through museums. And of course TRAVEL. :D

That's great. Chess is an awesome game of strategy and a fun leisure passtime. Sounds like you enjoy yourself Ralphy. Kudos.

I like museums too, especially art museums. We don't have any really old pubs where I live but I love exercise and working out as much as you do I think. It's a funny thing to enjoy doing with one's leisure time.

I especially like museums with lots of historical artifacts. Glasgow which is an easy day trip has some great museums. Edinburgh which is more of an overnight trip has amazing ones as well.

A pub down our road has sections from the 15th century, but most are 17th. The older a building, the more I like it!
