I found this book " Billy's World" by Bill Strauss on a Barnes and Noble search and it went on my wish list. I usually have around a hundred books on that list ongoing. So I'll order a few favorites and eeny meeny one or two more from the list. This is one of the better dog stories I've read for a long time.

I think the target audience might be male from middle aged to senior. But many women might enjoy it as well. One very funny line that sums up much of the book. The main character of the story visits his old uncle, a mountain man. Just before he leaves his uncle exclaims "You're as lucky as a two-peckered goat to have found that dog!".

There are a bunch of characters that flesh out in the course of the story. Eventually they all become interwoven when least expected. Basically the story is about an oil rig supervisor who finds a stray pup. The pup has escaped from a prize dog fighting operation...through twists and turns a whole small town ultimately saves the puppy.

I love a story that ends happy...they take down the dogfighting ranch in a spectacular way. Just one warning is the descriptions of some pit matches makes for difficult reading. Otherwise I totally recommend it to anyone who's ever loved a great big lap dog...it's not just for bully lovers. Enjoy! I wonder if the author is still alive?

You could Google him.

I recently read a wonderful novel by Dorothea Benton Frank called Full of Grace. It is sent in Charleston and the main character is a young woman named Grace. It started out as light chick lit but turned out to be so much more. Full of grace, full of miracles. I needed some light reading for a day of cat-sitting while some work was done in my apartment, so I grabbed this paperback as easy to carry and hopefully light to read. Once I started it I couldn't put it down!
