Not sure about this. Isn't this the way that all sorts of viruses get into computers? If so, leave me out! Better ask a nerd because I don't know and for the record, I don't think I share very much?

If you are talking about using bit torrent, then I have used it in the past if it was encrypted with a lock down but only for work purposes. I never used it to download or share movies, music etc from a site that offers pirated material. That is not safe at all.

Oh, Usenet groups ! I haven't thought about those in years but I was very active on them back in the 90s. Files can be shared on them but I would strongly advise against it.

The last time I shared any files they were received at the other end scrambled. What would have caused that? The other user sent it back to me and it looked just like I had sent it, so now I am confused how that happened. I thought maybe since I use windows and the other user has an Apple computer, that may have had something to do with it. What do you think? I haven’t shared a file since.

Your PC type should not matter. There only thing that I can think of is newsgroups used to have a file limit size. Not sure if they still do not I used them in the days of 56K modems. Might want to send the file as a ZIP file and see if that works. Doesn't explain why you received it back in full form. Sorry but that is the only thing I can think of

The easiest way I find to share videos, photos etc, is by uploading files to google drive and grant permission for other party to view selected files. This way I can give access to large files I uploaded to google drive that allows the recipient to play large video files that cannot be emailed because of size limitations.

Way back, I use to share MP3 files (music) .. had no problems.
