Finally got all my husband's guns sold

Here in New York, we have the SAFE Act, for guns. One thing is that after Rick died, I had 15 days to get his pistols out of the house, or face fines. So, I found a local dealer, who took the three pistols and 2 long guns he had. All were fairly old. Not antique, just older. So, I was told by people who knew guns I would probably not get a lot for them. I did not care, so long as they were out of the house.
Finally, the other day I got a call from the dealer that he had sold the last of the guns and could he come out today to give me the money, in cash (as a were cash sales). So I said I would be here. I did not think to ask how much he was bringing.
So, I figured, OK, maybe I would get $100 or so. Could get some groceries, and take myself out to a nice dinner. This morning, knock on door. He is there with an envelope...containing $710!!! OK, fine. I can live with that. I guess Santa is bringing Marie a new laptop. The rest is getting socked away for much later.

That is a very nice surprise for you, Marie! And such nice timing for it, too!

You have been doing a lot of work, this year, and deserve some pay for it.
In a funny way, it's wages for your hours of labor, yet seriously, you HAVE faced a lot of challenging tasks, and you are doing very well. You do deserve rewards for that. :)

I recently sold a .22 revolver that I bought in 1958. I got more than 3 times what I paid for it new. I sold it to a local gun shop.

Are there any rules in your state governing sales of weapons like the documentation declaring who the new owner is?

I am not sure, though I think there has to be a bill of sale, between the dealer/seller and the buyer. I do not claim to know a lot about guns but I know Rick needed a permit for the pistols, but not the long guns.
The dealer gave me a slip showing only what each person paid for the guns. Maybe someone else is clear about NY laws

Wow! What a nice surprise. Enjoy your new laptop, you deserve a treat.

Well, in giving it some thought, and doing some research, I have decided to hold off buying a new computer for a while. I am looking for a portable DVD player. Yes, I still have a few DVDs. And I will occasionally buy more. I got rid of Rick's big bulky DVD player that was hooked to the TV. I want to be able to watch in other rooms of the house, or whatever. I can get one for less than $100. Probably will buy one this weekend.

That sounds like a very nice treat to do , (get a portable DVD player that you like and select)
and a reward for yourself, Marie. (y)
