I Just retired about a month ago at 65!! I'm trying this site out to get an idea about what the retired life is all about hoping to get some ideas about how to spend my newly acquired free time. Any ideas? :)

Welcome Agewell!
Sorry, I can't be very helpful with suggestions. I have been retired 12 years and seem to be busy most of the time. I enjoy just doing what I want to do, when I want to and if I want to. We don't have to keep a schedule anymore! Sure you'll probably get ideas from others here.

With all due respect, If you really need ideas from others on how to spend your newly acquired time then maybe you really shouldn't retire.

Hi Agewell, like Carla my time just flies since I've retired, just doing everyday things fills most of my days. I too love not being tied to any schedules or setting any alarm clocks. Congratulations on your retirement, just relax and enjoy!

Welcome Agewell! I have been retired for about 6 months and I can honestly say..."I don't know how I got everything done when I was working full time!" The days just fly by. But the best thing is if you don't feel like doing anything on a given day, then that is your business, you have earned this time to enjoy life.

65 ! People shouldn't leave it so late. There's so much to do without the inconvenience of work getting in the way. Look at all the new skills you can acquire, places you can go (off peak when it's cheaper), the lifestyle etc.... after a while you'll wonder how you ever had the time to work!

I've been retired for 25 years and I've only been as busy as I chose to be. Sometimes more active than others. You'll most likely slip into a life pattern that will make you happy. Running out of money and/or poor health are things that you can't do much about at this time in life but everything else is pretty much your choice. Enjoy yourself!!:)

Welcome, Agewell, you need to take a year or 5 to get used to not having to do what you've been having to do. Course by then it won't matter!:p

Use your imagination. When I retired at age 51 I through hiked the Appalachian Trail north bound (from Georgia to Maine). My health, resources, and personal life gave me the opportunity to do that. It kept me busy for a while and was a great transition for me.
