Finding a good handyman

I need some ideas on finding a good handyman. Obviously, unless you live in the Milwaukee area, I’m not asking for a specific name. Of the few neighbors I talk to, they either don’t bother fixing anything; they do it themselves and not very well; or they do it themselves, but also work and I don’t want to ask.

Our Board VP is retired and he is a handyman, but he’s very good and in demand. He also does a lot of stuff for free for our condo association.

Any ideas?

Do you have the neighbourhood App ?...I found my handyman on there... had to weed through a few recomendations where people are recomending their own family members who are bad... ... but I found a great handyman.. and he wasn't out to overcharge either.

I think the best way is to join a FB group for your area. Then just put the question out to them for recommendations. You will get plenty of responses. After that, you can ask the FB respondents any questions such as: Do they show up on time? Were they thorough? Did they seem very knowledgeable?

Also, you can check the local Pennysaver paper that is usually free at the entrance of most larger grocery stores. The only problem there is no recommendation to go by.

If you are looking for one who is licensed and insured, then you can find them in the online Yellow Pages, or Angi's List, or possibly Yelp. If they are licensed, you will find the license number with their advertisement.

There's a bunch of handyman sites on the net, similar to Angie's list.
But prepared to pay. Mine cost $100 for him just to show and mucho more for the job.
That said, the guy I hired did a great job.
whereas the guy I got... came 2 days.. recovered my barn roof to stop it leaking.. installed a new part to my kitchen tap... Drilled holes in solid concrete walls and hung 2 heavy pictures for me... repaired a broken hinge on the kitchen door, .. Repaired the 6 foot garden gate which had dropped so the bolt wouldn't close... and fixed the latch... he took down my older Rose trellis which was attached to the wall of the house, and replaced it with one Id bought months before, he also assembled a brand new Standard lamp I'd bought...and charged me just £165.00... for the 2 days ...even tho' he had to drive 20 miles to come here

All these things had occurred during the 3 years my husband had been gone. He'd always been the person who maintained this house, but even tho' I keep my house nice, and don't damage things, these repairs just arrive by themselves.. ..so I had to find someone who could fix them before things got worse..

If you have a good tradesman (electrician, plumber, painter, &c.) with whom you deal on a regular basis, they can often point you to an equally good handyman. Ours was referred to us by our electrician. As @Lizzie00 said, a real estate agent can also be a good source. HTH
