Fireflies ! Do you get them?

I wish we got more! We always have a few flirting around in the summer months. I remember catching them a putting a bunch in jars when we were kids.

We haven't seen them yet, this year. A healthy environment has a wide diversity of living things. Austin is going down the tube, with thick smog in the mornings, stinky air. CV19 did help reduce the smog, with so many businesses closed, but still, no fireflies. I really hope Janet and I get to move, but nobody really knows what the future's going to bring.

Seems this year fire flies are later than usual.
Saw a few when I took the dog out for her last walk.

I miss hearing owls.

It seems that everything was a bit late this year.

I still get fireflies, and can remember catching them in jars when I was a child. Scientists haven't fully figured out the firefly's secret to making cool biochemical light...

That was one of the things I loved about last summer in Michigan: my room faced a wooded area and I could turn off the lights and watch the fireflies doing their light ballet. So beautiful and soothing

I still hear owls here at night along with coyotes. The other night I heard another animal but couldn’t detect what it was. I enjoy hearing the woodland creatures at night. It’s so soothing and relaxing.

I hope you get to move to someplace more suited to you. Maybe a downsize move might work. My husband and I talked about visiting areas we might be interested in during the summer months but like you say... nobody really knows for sure what the future will bring.

I haven't seen a firefly in ages and wish I could. I guess it's too blazing hot here in the Rio Grande Valley for those poor dears. lol

We'd enjoy watching them as children.

Two fireflies were at my side door last night. First time in years I have seen them up here, normally they are down by the lake in the trees.
Owls are always around this area, till the cottagers show up, then they gone , north I think. A lot of forest up that way.

I haven't seen any for some years. But then, I don't go out walking in the dark anymore.

My father would poke holes in an empty, metal Skippy peanut butter jar lid. I would put some grasses in, and keep one or two that I'd caught.

The jar would stand on my dresser, and I would fall asleep looking at the glow.

It was never there in the morning. I learned that my parents let them go after I fell asleep, for which I am glad.
