Fires in California.

According to the news here, you are having "Bush/Forest" fires
in California, I hope that you are all safe and far away from them.

Only a few months ago I was wishing you the same for the snow
and rain!

Though maybe not in California.

Isn't weather fickle.

Mike.

Thanks, Mike. I am not near any of the fires in San Diego but it's not just California. Many fires are raging in Oregon, Washington and Montana as well.

I'm about 40 miles from a couple fires up in the Kings Canyon National Forrest. The air is so bad they are advising people to stay indoors if they can. Still, I know it's not as bad here as it is in other areas. No one around here has lost a home so far.

Our two big fires have finally combined and are now contained. Lots of homes were lost but everyone who was evacuated have now been allowed to return home-if they still have a home. It was only smokey here on the second day of the first fire but now it has been smokey for the last couple of days from fires up north. Today we had an unsafe air day for the first time since we moved here 23 years ago..

Kings Canyon is home of the Giant Sequioua trees, is it not? Today, there is obviously a large amount of smoke passing through the Colorado River area here, the mts. to the south blotted out for hours. Our visibility has been perhaps 20 miles in other directions, so still not bad. Smoky air is the bane of folks, like us, using Swamp Coolers to keep our house livable. Yesterday's high was predicted to be 120`; it only made 117`! Swampers deliver huge amounts of outside air into and through the entire house, exiting it at the far end from the cooler. The wetted pads likely absorb some smoke, but surely not enough. Our cooler moves 6,500 cubic feet of air through the house every minute! imp

Yes Imp, they have 2 trees named General Grant and General Sherman up there. They are huge. When I go up I enjoy seeing people from all over the world enjoying the beauty of America. There are also some crystal caves up there that have guided tours.
