The winter storm that is now hitting Alaska and the Bering Sea is due to hit the Unites States next week, bringing freezing temperatures to most parts of America. The cold snap, called a bombogenesis, is described as similar to a polar cyclone, with extreme pressure drops, and below freezing weather as far south as the Gulf Coast and into Florida.
Although the main part of the storm will arrive midweek, they are sayong that the effects could last throughout the month, and warning people to be prepared. If is ends up being similar to Winter Storm Sandy, which was also a hurricane as well as a blizzard, many people could easily be without heat and electricity for a week or more.

I heard by us it will be only in the 30s next week, with nighttime temps in the teens. Was joking with my hubby about global warming, or ice age.

2 years ago nobody even knew what the Polar Vortex type storm was.
I dont even think the meteorologists know what it mean except that its a fancy word to use to impress their viewers.

Weather is a strange thing..I remember taking my youngest son out to a restaurant in the South of France, with some friends..It was 26 centigrade..he was wearing shorts and a tee shirt..and so was I..In the space of an hour, there was a snow blizzard...2ft of snow in 3 hours..we ran home..no electricity for 10 days..It was freaky!
