Flat tire today!

If I remember correctly, run flat tires were designed to get you home or to a repair place while driving slowly, rather than used as regular tire replacements.
 

We have run flats on our Infiniti. No problem with the ride. We carry a fix-it kit. It would ruin the tire but I’d rather be able to hobble into some town if we ever had a real issue while driving in the mountains.

I do try to look at the bright side of every situation. 1) I made it home so if I have to wait for assistance it's no big deal, 2) I have enough groceries for four days so the new tire should be installed before we need anything and 3) I have no commitments or appointments this week. Last week was my annual physical and my dental appointment.

Still, it's a bitter pill to swallow.

My little Cadillac ATS has run-flats and I don't bother with fix-a-flat, etc. The last time I had a flat, it was a major gash in the side wall, so I just drove (slowly) to the dealer the next day. It was a 7 mile drive @ 25 mph.

I don't remember having any other flats in the last 20 or 30 years

Sometimes the damage from a pothole takes a while to notice. I backed into a deep pothole, but I didn't know about the damage to my wheel until the next time I used my car. My tire started losing air, and the mechanic at the dealership said I needed a new wheel. A wheel and tire cost $1,000. There are a lot of potholes in this area, so I worry.
