Florida is seeing Covid-19 cases skyrocket among young people

Months ago, as the coronavirus was first spreading across the country, public health officials warned of the heightened risk it posed to older populations and those with underlying health conditions.

But officials are now warning of the growing impact Covid-19 is having on young people, like 29-year-old Jerry Ward, who told CNN he had to be hospitalized after going to a house party for a cousin's birthday.

Whenever I go out in public, I tend to observe those around me. In our area, the older people seem to be following the recommendations of wearing a mask, and keeping some distance between themselves and others. The younger people, however, seem to pay little attention to these measures, and I suspect that the statistics, in coming weeks and months, will reflect a much higher rate of infection in the younger people.

My BFF who lives in Florida mentioned this to me the other day and so did my cousin who said some young people came back up here claiming they got COVID from a pool. I told her more likely they partied before and during the pool party, weren't wearing masks and who knows, maybe were making out. My grand nephew goes to college in Florida....I sure hope he will stay safe.

i'm sorry to say that i do not feel sorry for the people who are going out to parties and wherever and not following the safety measures put in place months ago and now getting COVID. we were all forewarned. if they were stupid enough to take the chance then it's their own fault. i don't understand what is so hard for everyone to get about these safety measures.

We knew, not that long after it started, that it could and did affect younger people. Maybe no body told them.

Youth, (and we were all like this once,) doesn't or cannot comprehend that they are mortal. What irks me about them is that they don't care if they spread it to those more vulnerable.
That's it Rose (and @MarciKS). I feel for those who will be inadvertently exposed to the idiots who didn't care to take precautions but like you Marci I sure wouldn't feel sorry for those who ignore safety protocols.

exactly. it's not just about them. it's about all of us. i've heard coworkers literally say they don't care they're not wearing one in the kitchen. they have to in the halls and cafeteria and all common areas but, not in the kitchen. that ticks me off. that and watching them paw all over it and not change gloves or wash but i've told someone and nobody will do anything. if i go to the infection control lady i'm gonna get my butt chewed again. boss says he'll handle it, does nothing and if i go over his head he jumps my behind. it's not worth getting fired for. it just makes me mad that i can't do anything to put a stop to it without risking my own job for it.

My take is that many folks genuinely don’t ’get it’.
I don’t understand how they don’t get it but then there’s a lot i don’t understand.
Spooky stuff.
