Florida woman finds WW II message in a bottle in tropical storm Debby's wake

So this bottle somehow made it from the coast of Virginia down southward around the tip of Florida then made a right turn up the west coast of Florida until it reached the mouth of Tampa Bay then made another right turn into Tampa Bay then a left all the way up into the upper reaches of Tampa Bay. All this while going against the prevailing currents which flow in the opposite direction. I'm thinking it may have had a little help somewhere alongthe line.

The letter, addressed simply to "Lee," and the letterhead indicated it was sent from the Amphibious Training Base in Little Creek, Va.

The base — more than 1,300 kilometres from where Flament-Smith found the bottle — is still operational today, under the name Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.

I used to do TDY there periodically, when stationed on an LCU at Ft. Eustis, Va.

I once found a red balloon floating towards the beach in Connecticut. It had a note somehow tied to it.

The note was from a class in New Jersey and it said some 30 balloons were released by the kids and that if found would the finder write back and tell where it was found. I did write back and received a letter saying that ours was one of the furthest destinations heard from. That was pretty cool. But I never reported it to the media. Come to think of it, why would I.
