I won't say much about this ide other than after visiting the site I think it is a bad idea. Website: imperfectfoods.com see for yourself.

We've been subscribers for several years. Not a bad service at all. I have no idea why you think it might be a "bad" idea. These are NOT expired items. When companies change packaging, for example, they are often willing to discount the old packaging items to other sellers.

Bob's Red Mill, one of the best known artisanal grain companies, changed their packaging last year so for about six months Imperfect Foods had a modest selection of their products offered at 40% off.

"Short coded" means it is an item whose expiration date is within the next 2 months - NOT tomorrow or yesterday, as you seem to think.

I don't use them for everything, but we have discovered some amazing products through them. They're like Trader Joe's used to be "in the old days" - specialty products that you will find for a while but not necessarily forever.

We've noticed quite a few of their discoveries have made their way onto the shelves of the bigger supermarkets, having apparently proven their popularity.

Some of the items we've discovered through them:
- Tokyo turnips
- True Story chicken/apple sausage (this brand is so far the best of its type we've found)
- San Benoit Creamery's TCHO Chocolate pot de creme

I'd ding them for not always being accurate on my orders - oddly random fruits/veggies sometimes show up in my order (I never get charged for them; I think they just get aimed at the wrong box!).

OTOH, their customer service is OUTSTANDING - and I say that as someone who has dealt with CSDs very often as a rampant consumer for the past 60 yrs.

I haven't looked at their website, but I feel we are taking our chances with the name brand stuff these days, without getting things of unknown quality ... food, cosmetics ..no way!

Wow, interesting posts! "Unknown quality"? Well, San Benoit is considered one of the very best artisanal creameries in California.

One of the new items we just tried from IP was a fresh (e.g., requiring refrigeration) guacamole dip with corn and black beans. From that little known company called Del Monte Foods.

If anything would stop folks here from joining it would be prices. These are mostly organic, small producer, artisanal food products and not cheap. This is Whole Foods/Trader Joe's territory.

It looks like a great service to me. Luckily we have a good food service already but looking this over, it appears to be a great service. If it were available here, I’d definitely look into it since I hate shopping.

The UK has a supermarket chain called Morrisons. At their fruit & veg counter you can buy what they term as wonky fruit or wonky veg. None are cosmetically perfect and are sold at a cheaper price. Sometimes your blushes are not spared when vegetables like carrots can look rather phallic.
There was a classic case of that a couple of years ago when a tub full of potatoes caused a stir. Not so much the actual potatoes as the graffiti on the price tag. It read: "Dic-taters?"
