Food safety after a power outage

The most important thing is to leave the fridge and freezer closed for as long as possible. If a power outage lasts more than 4 or 5 hours, many foods can begin to spoil....especially if a person opens the door to "check" on the food.

Newer fridges are better insulated. I put a temperature probe in ours and the temperature only went up 3 degrees in 8 hours.

From this list, all I need to get rid of is the brand new, unopened quart of milk. I will live, just good info to have. My power was out about 8 hours
