Have, or do, your food tastes change?
I read somewhere (some time ago) that because our cells replace about every 7 years, our tastes change too. I know some of mine have.
I just googled it and found an article that says our taste buds change most during a transition period (about 6 mos).

My tastes for carrots changes. Sometimes they need sugar. Sometimes they don't, and sometimes I don't care for them.
My tastes for peas changes. Sometimes they need lots of salt, sometimes lots of butter.

I don't eat much red meat. I use to think it was because I grew up on a farm and we butchered our own beef, that I was use to prime cuts. But I've come to realize it's because I usually just prefer pork (and I like the greater variety of flavor of pork).

How about you?

BTW; did you know that milk comes out of a cow at 101 degrees and it's wonderful on 'cold' cereal on a cold morning?
Umm, no... we didn't squirt it out of the cow right into the bowl!!

I feel the same. I am finding that I often need or want much more flavor in my food than I used to. It seems that my husband is opposite. He usually liked adding spiciness and heat to his food, and finds he cannot any more.

My tastes change quite a lot , and I find myself now enjoying food I didn't like in my younger days..and going off the taste of other food..like red meat

My husband OTOH has always loved spicy food but now it has to have so much spice in it for him to taste it...I don't think a normal person would be able to cope with the taste . I really think he's destroyed his taste buds over the years, plus he's lost most of his sense of smell.

Our tastes have changed also. When we were first married I made all sorts of gooey desserts and cakes filled tons of icing. Now the hubby would rather have coffee cake or plain donuts to dunk in his coffee. We both like the occasional brownie and I love glazed yeast donuts when I was able to eat them also cheese cake.

When I was a child I was almost what they would call anorexic today. I didn't eat much of anything. By the time I was 12 or so, I completely changed and began to love everything, even vegetables besides just peas and corn.

I developed a good tolerance for heat and enjoyed very spicy hot foods. But after a hospitalization and certain drugs, I lost it and can't tolerate heat anymore like I did.

When I first moved to New Mexico, I loved hot foods, the hotter the better. One day my stomach decided enough was enough and I couldn't tolerate it any more. I'm not as fond of the taste of chiles as I was, so I guess all of that has changed.

I have read that as we age, we actually lose taste buds so naturally things taste different. Here is an excerpt from Aging Gracefully...

"Between the ages of 40 and 50, the number of taste buds decreases, and the rest begin to shrink, losing mass vital to their operation. After age 60, you may begin to lose the ability to distinguish the taste of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter foods. The sense of smell does not begin to fade until after the age of 70; its decrease exacerbates the loss of taste for those affected. The exact cause of these changes is up for debate. However, the actual reason taste and smell decline with age may not be as important as the resulting effects it has on you and your nutritional balance."

When I was young I used to go for fancy dishes or dishes that included everything but the kitchen sink.

These days I prefer simpler less complicated meals.

I also eat more of the foods that I grew up with and have become less adventurous about trying new things.

I can't wait for the day to arrive when I satisfied with tea and toast, LOL!
