My wife bought this from Amazon, it was delivered last friday. Queen Size Mattress - 16 Inch Cool Memory Foam & Spring Hybrid Mattress with Breathable Cover - Comfort Plush Euro Pillow Top - Rolled in a Box - Oliver & Smith
Saturday is bulk trash pick up day, mattress, box spring & frame rails were put out to be taken & they were. That left the bedroom floor open to unpack the new mattress to let it open properly. That made it possible to get the true length & width measurements. The project was to build a custom base platform.
Early Sunday morning with my list of materials needed I went to Home Depot bought everything I needed. Sunday afternoon sanded then stained the 2x12x12 side & bottom rails until I got the color match to the bedroom furniture, then coated those with shellac.
Monday the mattress still not ready to be used per mfg recommendation.
Monday afternoon finished the pre assembly work. Monday evening stood the mattress on it's side against the dresser.
Tuesday began assembling the custom frame. Doing the color match & shellac on the covered patio & hoping I got the match really close. I think once assembled inside the house the color match to the head board & other furniture is pretty good. The 12" height worked for the planned storge space under the base. For the picky DIY people I know a 2x12 isn't a true 12 inches. Assembled the base, slid the mattress in place, my wife slept really good last night on her new mattress.
3 pics.
Headboard, side rails, doors to access the storage.
I could probably have bought a metal base for less than the cost of this custom base but what's the fun in that? The process timed out just right.
