My son lives on Guam and adopted a dog about 2 months ago.

The shelter asked if he would foster this 4 week old puppy until she became adoptable age..

Would this pup leave your home when she becomes of age ??

I could never give that puppy up. I don't live far from the Seeing Eye Organization in Morristown NJ. I think the folks that raise those dogs, socialize them and get them ready for the intense training the dogs go through to become seeing eye dogs are to be commended. So many times I thought about it but I am weak, I couldn't give them back, even for such a worthy cause.

When the dog becomes adoptable, he'll need a crane, a bulldozer, 100 pounds of TNT, and 80 guys to get the dog out of his hands.
But you mentioned your son lives on Guam. When you think of swank, elegant, tropical islands that are the base of jet-setting super wealthy types: Guam is way down at the bottom of that list. Your son wouldn't be in the US Navy or some other branch?

He works for the gov.

So sweet. At only 4 weeks, she should still be with her mom, so have to assume something happened to her. Do they want your son to keep her until she's about 12 weeks old?
To answer your question, NO, couldn't let her go.

You should contact the people that do the service training. They have VERY high standards so not all the dogs pass. But the ones that don't pass are still VERY awesome dogs because of all the training they got.

I am what the dog rescue world refers to as a "failed foster". I have taken in a few abused dogs over the years with every intention to rehabilitate them, teach them to trust again, then find them good homes. But after seeing their remarkable turnaround just by showing them love and kindness, there is no way I could have adopted them out and make them adjust to a new person/family/situation again. So they stayed with me for the rest of their lives.

Ken, I applaud your son for adopting! Did he end up fostering that adorable baby? After my own experience, I have learned that not everyone is cut out to be a foster dog guardian :love_heart:

Yes he is still fostering her. Time will tell if he keeps her.
