So I’m sitting on the plane coming home from our cruise. My purse starts to slip off my lap. I grab for it and the next thing you know, my wedding ring has gotten snared by one of the zipper tabs. I can’t explain it well, but suffice it to say my hand was caught on my purse and it was not comfortable. Could I remove the ring? Well, it hasn’t been off that finger but maybe once in 50 years, so it’s pretty tight. Dave tried to help, but no go. It was getting painful and I was getting a bit panicky. The guy in the window seat says “Can I take a look?” Sure! And, by golly, he fiddles with it for a couple minutes, and I’m free! It was so freakish! One of those things I couldn’t replicate if I tried. I thanked him profusely. Three times. So relieved I wouldn’t have my had affixed to my purse for the next 8 hours.
Now here’s the kicker. The way back machine took me to a time when I taught 5th grade. I had a crummy old desk. One of the drawers came off the runners and I was struggling to put it back on track. I was mega frustrated. Adam, who was a big kid, and I mean big, offered to help. I churlishly thought, oh like you can do any better, but I didn’t say it and said sure. And, by golly, he got it back on track. I said, “You da man, Adam!” He deserved the praise, and I was a bit ashamed of myself for initially not wanting To give him a chance. So i learned a lesson, and that all came back to me on the plane, because window seat dude was also a big guy. So karma works both ways, I’m thinking. And alls well that ends well.
