Fried green tomato time.

At least once during tomato season I treat myself to fried green tomatoes. I wait until the end of the season and pick the small knobby ones that probably won't ripen anyway. I use egg and cornmeal for the coating. A little salt and pepper and they are ready to be fried. I use plain old corn oil with a bit of bacon fat added. Definitely not for the health conscious, but so delicious.

Wonderful. They are a restaurant item almost year round in the south especially in small diner type places. I no longer make them myself but occasionally will order them in spite of how unhealthy they are. Yellow crook neck squash is good cooked the same way
