With apologies to Garrison Keillor, we are broadcasting from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia.

I do most of my wider communications, still--even in the era of Facebook--via a blog called Fragments from Floyd, that I started at age 54 in 2002.

The subject matter tends to center around our relationships--broken or recovering--to nature, place and community.

I also celebrate--or whine about--the vantage point of a sixty-something baby boomer/biology watcher and arm-chair curmudgeon.

Often, my digital landscapes, outdoor stills, or natural history images either adorn or elicit the blog post.

We live in a remote corner of a county that is bordered by the Blue Ridge Parkway and has a single traffic light. Kinda quiet here.

I look forward to gaining familiarity and comfort from this varied group of citizens united by longevity--and hopefully, more.

Oh no, not Country Roads, earworm alert!

Hi and welcome Fred, seems you've found an idyllic little patch of the planet, good for you. Join in a thread or start up one on what interests you whenever you're ready.

:welcome:

Hi Fred welcome to the forum.

I live in a one-horse town and love it too. We do have 2 stop lights on the highway that runs through our town.

Great looking blog, I'm at work so I don't have any time to peruse it right now.

Welcome, Fred! I was just in Floyd a couple of years ago. It's just a bit over a 2 hr mostly interstate drive from Charlotte and a few of us drove up for the wk-end. We wanted to escape the heat and our destination was Morrissette (sp?) Winery. We loved it....as well as the Italian one fairly close by. I remember we stopped for gas in Floyd and it's charming as can be. Mountain people are wonderful and it's such a gorgeous area. I'm amazed that the Meadows of Dan area hasn't been more developed than it is, breath taking views. One of my friends was looking at property there and it's a steal compared to NC's overly developed mountain areas near Boone/Blowing Rock.

Anyway, we're glad you're here. Your writing and observation skills will be very appreciated.

Yes, we have a most interesting community here--"progressive life in the slow lane" as I described it somewhere.

I'll be perusing the Senior Forums site to find one or more niches for an old burned out tree-hugger/physical therapist/writer.

I've put a link to Senior Forums on my blogroll at Fragments from Floyd, and hope this can become a case of mutual exchange of ideas and conversation. We'll see how that goes.

Welcome Fred; I am not familiar with your neck of the woods, but I am familiar with Garrisn Keeler..

Hi Fred, welcome to the forum!

Di, already had that earworm, now he has a buddy! :)

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, Mountain Mama
Take me home, country roads :jammin:

Hi there Fred and welcome to our great forum.....
Hope you enjoy it here....
