Frozen Food Safety on Delivery

I need to have food delivered to me for a little while and wondered if I should buy frozen products which actually would be the bulk of the order as I am not able to cook much right now.

My worry is..will the frozen products be starting to thaw after they have been shopped for and put in truck for delivery ?

OK... I dodn't know about the US, but here we have dedicated Frozen food supermarkets... They sell about 10% non frozen.. so in essence people go there a lot if they want to restock their freezers more often that the regular supermarket who don't sell as much.... so you would think these people would be expert in the handling and delivery of frozen food..

There was a store near where I worked, and I had been thinking about having an order delivered from there.. but hadn't yet.. and during my lunch hour one day I went into the store.. and stacked on the floor past the checkouts..next to the sunny plate glass window.. were several deliveries all ready to be loaded onto a van.. all with clear names and address tags on them... I mentally noted this.. and left the store... 90 minutes later I had reason to go back into that store.. and the same items were still sitting stacked in the same position... I couldn't see what was in the bags but I immediatly dismissed any idea of having food delivered from them... the very thought that fish, chicken, pork and shellfish were in those bags gave me the shudders.
 
I regularly have frozen food delivered and there is never any problems. The vans are refrigerated and the items stay frozen. I get deliveries from different supermarkets and the service is the same.
 
Seems like the other folks who responded had good experiences. I would ask them directly which companies they used. Sounds like they found the good ones. I haven't.


I get deliveries from Peapod, the delivery arm of Stop & Shop groceries.


The food that got to my door, including the frozen food, was often room temperature, no more.

So, I did inquiries. What I discovered is that they DO NOT use refrigerated trucks!!!

What they do, is pack the items, the night before, in dry ice.

And clearly, that was not enough.


So, I just kept ordering paper goods, canned goods, drinks...anything that did not need to be refrigerated. But I stopped ordering all the things that needed refrigeration.


So, what I would do is contact the company directly...make sure they are using refrigerated trucks (I don't think many services do)...

Seems like the other folks who responded had good experiences. I would ask them directly which companies they used. Sounds like they found the good ones. I haven't.
