The active Battalion wears the Davidson tartan on Parade , while the pipers wear a Stewart Hunting tartan, and the drummers wear the Davidson tartan. The first Colonel of the Regiment was a Davidson. The Regimental Fund buys and maintains the dress order uniforms, while the CadPat uniforms are provided by DND central stores. A NCO dress uniform costs about $1,000 including the kilt which is made to order for the member, and the feather bonnet which is made from black ostrich feathers. An Officer's full dress uniform may cost upwards of $5,000, and the purchase of a Wilkinson vintage ceremonial sword and scabbard can add a further $10,000 to the cost, which the newly minted 2nd LT, will pay off during their first year of service. The 48th are the only Highland Regiment in the Toronto Garrison. They are tasked as a Light Infantry recce battalion. Over the years, a number of family names have been seen as Lt Colonels of the unit, and at least 3 sets of Grand Fathers, sons, and Grand Sons have all been Regimental Sgt Majors of the 48th. The running joke is that the 48th are actually a Scottish Social Club, that just happens to have armored vehicles and automatic weapons in the basement of the club house, which is actually known as Moss Park Armories in down town Toronto.
