Sheriff Lee Vance's death related to COVID-19

Sheriff Vance served Hinds County--the most populated county in the state. He died while at home recovering. This is concerning because a substantial number of unvaccinated Mississippians are Black (by choice, not due to limited access) due to what some Black columnists attribute to an inherent distrust of experimental medicine that stems partly from the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. Vance's death will likely deepen vaccine distrust in the community.

Did the article mention an underlying health condition?
I heard on the news this morning school kids that are overweight or obese are more prone to severe issues if they contract covid-19 or the delta variation.

The news report may stem from this.
https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20210330/striking-increase-in-childhoood-obesity-during-pandemic#:~:text= March 30, 2021 -- Obesity rates among, will be a continuing problem for these children.

It didn't. He was overweight, but not morbidly obese. Best body shot I could find. 63 years old. Weight and pre-existing conditions can play a roll, but a majorly frustrating characteristic of Covid is its inconsistency. I personally know several older, unvaccinated people proportionately more overweight than Sheriff Vance with comorbid conditions who have had mild cases and a few younger who've fit the profile who've died.

He was obviously a normal-size person.
Often times, when something happens that's unexpected, the "experts" try to provide a valid explanation, even when none exists - especially when they're trying to sell a vaccine to everyone.
Comorbidities are more than "normal-size person."

Unfortunate if it does. One event should not lead folks to conclude much, good statistics are what really matter.

I have read that something like 97% of Covid deaths are now unvaccinated people. If that is true it matters a lot more. The unfortunate Sheriff was just a part of the unlucky 3%. Problem with this statistic is that I have had trouble finding its origin and the real numbers, hence my "if... true".

It's running appx 98% in Mississippi with most of the vaccinated deaths 65 years old and older with high risk comorbidities. It will be unfortunate if Sheriff Vance's death leads to more distrust of the vaccine but is likely since it's leading news in the state.
