Funerals - Do You Send Flowers?

It depends on what side of the family died, Jew or Catholic. No flowers for the Jews. Instead you send money or a shiva gift, like food or candles, or you visit the family during the shiva week. The Catholics, on the other hand, can't get enough of the flowers. And the more expensive they are, the more you loved them.

In our circle of Catholic friends and family, beautiful potted plants are sent. When Mom passed, there were tons of plants. My sisters took them home because these potted plants are being stolen from the cemetery. Cut flowers are not sent because they are so costly. I paid for Mom's casket spray of pink roses. $500+ I requested that they be buried with her.

I like that idea.

My mom died from covid, and we had a small pandemic-era funeral. We only did live plants, too. That's what the funeral home recommended. My sister bought mom's house and planted the plants in mom's gardens. All of them are thriving, and the flowering ones looked really pretty this past spring.
