Gene Hackman and wife found dead

Hackman aged 95, was found in his Santa Fe home alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, and pet dog.

A police request search warrant has been filed – but foul play is not suspected, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.


The actor was one of the best-loved stars in Hollywood, starring in classic films ranging from The French Connection and The Conversation to Superman.

He won Oscars for The French Connection and Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven, and stepped away from the spotlight a few years after The Royal Tenenbaums in 2001.

Mendoza told the Santa Fe New Mexican that the couple died around midnight on Thursday (27 February). The sheriff did not speculate on their cause of death.

“I want to assure the community and neighbourhood that there’s no immediate danger to anyone,” Mendoza said.
 

This was the last picture taken of the 2 of them this time last year... and had been the first photo taken of them together in 2 decades...

..so why would the dog be dead as well ?.. just one dog out of 3 ..and why would they be found in different bedrooms?.. if that were true , surely if she committed suicide , she would have died next to him

The dog was left inside while the other two dogs outside had pool water and grass granted they aren't sheep but as you know that can carry them for awhile .

She staggered perhaps regretted taking the pills .

This is my theory .
 
I'm still trying to get my head around the pic above - wouldn't recognize 'him' in a million years - could be more like an intruder I would think? - didn't have time to kill all the dogs - got the humans and one dog and then bolted with whatever they wanted to steal??

apaprently nothing was stolen.

However today the police say that it's likely GH was actually dead for 9 days... and there was no Carbon Monoxide foud in either o their bodies...

Authorities said it was a very good assumption that February 17 was the last day of his life due to the lack of pacemaker activity thereafter.

Officials also said that there was no trace of carbon monoxide in the bodies of the couple, and that there was still no official cause of death.

A search warrant obtained by DailyMail.com revealed Arakawa was found decomposed with bloating on her face and mummification in her hands and feet.

Hackman was found in a mud room off the kitchen. His sunglasses and cane were on the floor and it has been suggested the actor had suffered a fall.



I have to say 2 days after thier parents were found dead, I was astonished to see the 2 daughters grinning for the cameras this morning as they went out for breakast...

I find it muck raking that's all but the daily mail is renowned for it? - it's sleaze mail imo - they may have been smiling at something quite innocuous but the DM just had to snap it with no comments??
 
I read earlier that the pills scattered on the counter were Tylenol, thyroid and high blood pressure medicine.

My theory is: Gene, 95 with a pacemaker, had a sudden heart attack and fell to the floor, Betsy ran to the bathroom to get medicine, frantically opening a few wrong bottles and spilling pills. Then the dogs were running around spooked from Gene's fall and Betsy's frenzy behavior and the dogs could have knocked down Betsy and she hit her head, causing her death. Gene was frail and Betsy was a small 63 year old and they had 3 large German Shepherds.

The dog that died could have swallowed a few Tylenol or a combination of the other medicines sniffing around after a few hours or days of not being fed which would be toxic and cause the dog's death. The dog could have walked around awhile and then went into the closet to die because dogs will try to hide when they are dying.

I don't believe Betsy committed suicide.

Actually determining cause of death of all 3 deceased would prove or disprove her hypothesis. They'll definitely run toxicology tests on all three. Any head injuries will be factored in. I can't wait for the made for TV movie starring an AI version of Gene Hackman.
 
Betsy was 32 years younger than Gene Hackman. Yes, she loved him but I don't believe she killed herself because he died at 95.

She had to know the probability of Gene dying before her was very high and she probably prepared herself mentally for that many years ago.

I still think her death was accidental in her frantic efforts to help Gene after his fall.

Also, they probably should not have had German Shepherds. I love dogs but all dogs, whether properly trained or not can be unpredictable. Just a slight bump from 1 large German Shepherd could have caused either Gene or Betsy to fall at any given time. Again, he was 95 and frail and she was a small 63 year old woman.
