Story here
Derek Chauvin was taken into custody earlier today.
Derek Chauvin was one of four cops fired over Floyd’s death Tuesday, which was captured in a viral bystander video that roiled the nation. In several videos of the encounter, Chauvin is shown holding Floyd to the ground while he pleaded, “I can’t breathe, man. Please. Please let me stand.”

According to the initial Minneapolis Police Department statement about Floyd’s death, they were responding to an alleged “forgery in progress” near a local grocery store Monday when they encountered Floyd, who they claimed resisted arrest, although bystander videos don’t show any such struggle.

The owner of the store had called the police because they believed Floyd had used a counterfeit $20 bill to make a purchase.

First responders have since said that he didn’t have a pulse by the time they arrived. The video ends with them dragging Floyd’s limp body onto a stretcher.

So many details are still missing.

I hope that more arrests will be made and that the entire police department is investigated.

It concerns me that it may be more than a coincidence that all four officers involved appeared to remain calm and focused on the task at hand as though this conduct towards a handcuffed suspect was SOP.

It took them long enough to decide to arrest the officer.
We'll see WHAT he's charged with, IF he's convicted, WHAT he's convicted of, WHAT his sentence is, & HOW EARLY he's paroled.

Justice for murderer cops isn't the same as justice for non LEO's. I doubt they would have even arrested him if nobody said or did anything.

They sure did drag their feet, didn't they.

A life was lost, and unless another is taken as an eye for an eye equal, justice (IMO) will never be served.

My husband said the rest who stood around watching and failed to intervene, are cowards. I agree.

He was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
Manslaughter is typically treated as a much less severe crime than murder. Manslaughter can be broken up into degrees, or categorized as voluntary and involuntary manslaughter.

There are different degrees of murder, with first degree murder being the most serious. There are clear differences between first, second, and third degree murder. First degree murder is any murder that is premediated and done willfully with malice. If a person is involved in a dangerous crime that ends up resulting in a death, they can be charged with first degree murder as well. Second degree murder is a murder that was intentional and done with malice, but it was not planned or premeditated. Third degree murder, also often called voluntary manslaughter, is a murder that is intentional but was done under circumstances that can be argued to be severe enough that they would have caused any reasonable person to become disturbed enough to commit such an act. Second and third degree murder can be distinguished by the circumstances surrounding the act a lot of the time; for example, if someone kills another person in a spur of the moment fight, that would typically constitute second degree murder, but if the person who was killed in the fight had murdered a loved one of the killer, that would likely be considered third degree murder.

Because of the Code of Silence & brotherhood in law enforcement, it's rare for other cops to intervene or testify truthfully when cops are charged. Attorney Alan Dershowitz described how police officers testify in criminal cases involving cops charged with a crime as: "Testilying." Only 2 of the cops in the Rodney King beating were tried & convicted - in Federal Court only, after being found "Not Guilty" in the first criminal trial in Simi Valley - also known as "Cop Land" because of the many cops who live there. The officers' attorney had a good reason for having the trial in that city.

On Morning Joe they said the cop had his knee on his neck for nine minutes. The cop had 19 years on the force so it was not a matter of lack of training but doesn't it you as odd that if he were violating policy that none of the three other cops did nothing? Are all four that arrogant and stupid or was this proper behavior according to the Minneapolis rules of conduct ?

The Code of Silence & Brotherhood surrounding Law Enforcement, sure is one cowardly code.

I wonder... if the code stated that all members should jump off a bridge, I wonder if they'd follow that code, too?

No code of any kind would have held me back from intervening, and it's equally as shameful that no one from the crowd stepped in.

Anyone from the crowd who stepped in would have (at the very least) been arrested for "Interfering with an officer." And if they happened to be black, they might have been murdered, as well.
I would have taken my chances, but standing back and watching without doing, that wouldn't have been an option for me. Knowing what we know now, I'll venture to guess there are people in the crowd having a difficult time sleeping now, and who are kicking themselves for not stepping in.

I typically don't chime in on these threads, but when those in authority "think" their above the law, there is no law. SS storm troopers come to mind.

The local television station is reporting that the two men very likely knew each other, because both had worked as security guards at the same night club for a long time.
It is possible that, if this is true, then what happened might have been a personal issue between the two men.

This is so disturbing but somehow not surprising. The police officer and Floyd used to work as security guards together as earlier as just last year.

Only one?

There is video of another officer kneeling on Floyd's torso. Between the pressure on the torso & neck all 4 "trained" officers should have known the consequences of that action.

I highly agree!!!!!!!

Of course they knew the consequences. Most people know it was intentional, whether they admit it or not.

New picture and video shows that the arrested Cop, was one of 3 people kneeling on the murdered man... ( all the cops in this picture have been fired)

The family of George Floyd has hired their own pathologist for a separate autopsy after the official results claimed he did not die of strangulation or asphyxiation.

The preliminary results of the county’s autopsy instead concluded Floyd, 46, died from a combination of heart disease and 'potential intoxicants in his system' that were exacerbated by the restraint placed on him by police officers.

Floyd's family revealed Friday they have now hired the services of renowned forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden to conduct a second, independent autopsy.

They claim the underlying health conditions cited in the official report are ‘an illusion’.

Further to that The Killer Cop's wife also filed for divorce on the day of his arrest ..!!!

However, what I don't condone and never will is the vast looting and destruction carried out in the dead man's name... absolutely disgraceful, and I feel all protesters involved in this should face very stiff penalties. The destruction of property and businesses who are already suffering due to the Pandemic, and who now because of the actions of to these mindless thugs/ thieves, & protesters may lose their businesses and livelihoods , is just an absolute disgrace.

I also feel for Law enforcement , and the army who because of the actions of a rogue few Police officers , have now put their own lives on the frontline to protect everyone else...

Have a look here and the countrywide damage caused in the USA from Florida, to NYC, to Washington, and to the Carolinas..as well as Minneapolis ...Videos and graphic pictures here >>>
