Georgia Could Lose Up to 95 Percent of Its Peach Harvest Due to Wild Weather Swings

Bad news for Georgia peach growers and consumers.

But good news for this Utah peach grower. Prices should be up.

Yes, I heard this. :( I love peaches. Fortunately there's a prolific fruit farm close to where I live. They grow several varieties of peaches. They're not the famous Georgia peaches, but they're damn good. There are many crops that are suffering the effects of climate change.

These are the foods that climate change is taking off the menu > https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2021...g-some-of-your-favourite-foods-to-go-extinct/

In 2 days, it'll be July 1, 2023, and I've rarely used my AC. Usually, it would be cooling its heart out. And off Africa storms are developing way earlier than usual. And peaches are failing in Georgia. Gee, ya think there might be something in that fake global warming thing?
BTW, no offense Utahans, but I thought the only thing you guys could grow in Utah was rocks. Utah peaches??????

The Georgia peach crop is almost non existent this year. The hard freezes did a number on my perennial flowers, too.

This week has been the first really hot weather we've had. Until now we've had a day or two here and there of high temps, always followed by a few more of very low (for us) temps. Every time we thought it was summer, it would turn cold. Doesn't look like that's going to happen this time.

And Florida's orange crops are suffering too:
Yep, way down. It's been on the decline for a long time, hard for Florida citrus growers to compete with imported citrus. Now the Greening Disease is making it even worse. Its a problem worldwide, no real solution found yet. Doesn't completely kill most trees, just substantially reduces yield. I have a friend in the business, he's trying to either convert to grazing or sell off his groves.

When I was a kid you could drive for miles in most of the southern half of the state seeing oranges everywhere. Today they are becoming a rarity.

I remember! We had two trees in our yard.

Yes, keep driving those 4X4 trucks, big SUVs and make sure that everyone flies all over the world for fun. Then Georgia will lose 99.99% of it's peaches. I love peaches and eat them every Tuesday and Thursday morning for breakfast. With global warming and a world population of 8 billion, I wonder what all the folks will eat?

Even some songs will disappear:

1. Jimmie Rodgers, the Mississippi Blue Yodeler had this one:

When it's peach pickin' time in Georgia
Apple pickin' time in Tennessee
Cotton pickin' time in Mississippi
Everybody picks on me

2. Johnny Cash recorded "Bad News." One part was:

I picked peaches in Georgia
I lumbered jack in Maine
I've been hired, fired and jailed
in every town you can name
Cause I'm bad news.

Oh no! That's disappointing. It'll be another year having to eat Apricot preserves instead of my favourite Peach preserves with my toast for another two seasons. Shush!😭😭😭

It is very sad. Not only the loss of peaches but the loss of jobs. People reply on seasonal work to feed and house their families. It will leave some struggling. 🙁
