Germany seems to be fairing better than others with virus considering how close they are to them including Italy,

Testing seems to be the key but some doubt even Germany's numbers are accurate. Some say numbers can be dependent on who is tested or not like the most and least ill. Also Germany has quadruple the number of icu beds as Italy. And German scientist picked up the virus as early as last December.

And this only begs the question, Were scientists not aware of it in this country, back in December or even early January, and if they were, why weren't we, as a nation, alerted much sooner?

Scientist here today say that if we had been made aware of this sooner, we would have been better prepared and ultimately many more lives would be saved. We don't think of ourselves as a third world country where this laxness would be expected.

Being so new any developments Germany made in testing probably didn't even have time to hit the literature in the form of studies and articles. I'm sure they shared information but to turn that into test kits and procedure is another story. Also early projections didn't show it coming to the west as fast as it did. Testing is after the fact. The first thing that should've been done in Europe and the US is cut off travel from China much earlier than they did. Just suspending it for a few weeks a month earlier probably could've slowed it down. And personally I think this thing was loose in China a lot longer than they admit to as it spread/traveled the world a lot longer than many think.

One of the problems with Italy is that its population is old. 1 out of every 5 Italians is over 65. And most of the po[ulation is crammed into just a few districts. So Italy has the oldest and densest population, The best of worlds for virus fatalities.
