Getting Older

What do you Look forward too?? What goals do you set? I'm just not sure anymore, need ideas.

Goals seemed easier to come up with in our youth. We all needed a lot of STUFF. Now not so much.
i've recently come to realize, that today my goals need to be just a bit more self oriented.
Our family is well on their way in this world, and that is all a parent can do for them, except for a few trust funds if that was a possibility.
Today we are trying to reset our goals, so that we can enjoy today for ourselves. We have decided that if the children show up for a visit, it is a good day for socializing, but if not, then we can play how ever we want.
We've also decided to sell whatever we still have when I turn 65, and spend it on ourselves.
It's time to do whatever will make us happy. We've done all the family responsibility duties that were required, and more.
Now we get to love, laugh, and just enjoy the the day for what it is, OURS.

Ina, Love your outlook, Would add not getting sicker if I could.

It beats the heck out of setting around feeling sorry for my self, and why waste such precious golden days? If you figure out how to get out of the pain, there are just a few too many us that would love you to share your magic. :magnify:

I just want to stay as healthy and as active as I can for as long as I can. I have taken control of my weight and lost 26 pounds to date. I have started eating healthier and eliminated artifical sweeteners and anything "white"... flour, bread, rice, potatoes. I do strict portion control. I have started exercising and walk 10-12 miles a week.

I want to stay engaged with what is happening in the world and I will ALWAYS have an opinion. I enjoy working and hope to work at least 2 more years. (I turn 66 in January). My hubby has just retired which will make it easier for me as he can handle things at home so we can have more time to enjoy the evenings and weekends.

I think that Ina has said it all really!:) We don't have goals as such, or feel the need for them. Like Quicksilver, we hope to stay healthy, but otherwise enjoy time with the family, or with friends, or just out and about by ourselves. Having time to sit curled up in a warm place [I sound like a cat] with a good book.

Pchrise, I'm sorry you lost a special nature friend. I do understand how we can love them so unconditionally. I believe that wherever we end up, those friend will be there, and the neat thing is we get to believe whatever we want.
The Bee Gees were one of my favorite groups, and I admit to a crush on all three of them.

Now that the weather is getting cooler I am looking forward to getting back to playing golf and improving my accuracy in the game of Petanque, also to planning another cruise for spring of 2015. I have done 10 since retiring.

Well, will keep using Just For Men Hair Color (mustache, temples) for as long as I can. It feels SO GOOD when I get the "no way you are 65 years old" from folks. Wife loves my "no gray" hair also. She colors hers as well and it always looks great.

As far as exercise goes, we get enough.......at least we feel we do. Wife is on vacation and yesterday went on a Casino Cruise Ship (5 hrs.) and done quite a bit of walking, even though the elevator was working on each deck. Other exercise include using our 20 ft. power boat, going to a Gun/Rife Range and sometimes playing our Wii Game in the living room.

We take a multi-vitamin and fish oil each day. Don't eat that good, but do enjoy what we do eat.........steak, chops, taters, burgers, etc., etc. and can't leave out the Bud Light and 1800 Tequila margarita's.

Yes, we are both getting "older", but I still say "dude", "Party Time"..........so, we can't be getting that "older". LOL

I agree Ina. I achieved my life goals 17 years ago and haven't set new ones. Just try to live each day as stress free as possible, being thankful for my blessings and trying not to want what I can't have.

Ah, a great question and one that's on my mind a lot as I head towards the end of my career. As I look back I think I've accomplished my main objective, which was to be financially secure enough to retire a bit earlier than originally planned. I helped raise a wonderful son, who has turned into a great father to our two grandchildren. Looking to the future, I definitely have some new goals. Getting out of this climate to someplace more moderate is on the list. Fostering new friendships with folks in our new location (likely the Northwest of the US). Getting more physically healthy with time to work out and get outside in beautiful surroundings. I want to improve my photography. I hope to be around long enough for my grandchildren to say I'm a cool grandpa with enough energy to keep up with them. I want to volunteer somewhere and help others, perhaps veterans, so I can give back. There's never been enough time to do it right for me. So yes, I do have goals and look forward to hitting them.
