I've always cringed when I saw people putting contacts in their eyes . I thought " eeewwww ... how can anybody put stuff in their eyes !" It gave me the heebie jeebies. Now I've been diagnosed with dry eye syndrome & I need eye drops 3 times a day. ME ??? PUT STUFF IN MY EYES ???? yuck.

I had my husband put them in - even then .... I know the drop is coming and my eye automatically closes ! I'm like a squirmy kid . I have to learn how to do this . The drops are too expensive to have them rolling down my cheek ! He said he's going to duct tape my eyes open if I don't sit still ~~~ LOL

Any Advice ? Tricks ? Hints ? (that doesn't involve duct tape ? )

When I had my cataracts done I had to put eye drops in three times a day for three weeks :eewwk::eewwk: yeah right that like telling the sun not to shine ..my eyes are so sensitive ...my hubby ended up trying to do it for me ....he’d say for goodness sake shut your mouth and open your eyes ...:waiting::waiting: all I could do is say I’m trying

You might try pulling down your lower eyelid and putting the drops in the pocket it forms at the bottom, rather than right on your eye. That seems easier to me, and less startling. Good luck.

I'm the same way, I can't imagine having to put in contacts, if I need glasses I'll be using the regular kind for sure. My eyes have been sensitive and strained when using the computer or reading, so I've been using eye drops daily for moisture. I used to get the heebeejeebies putting them in, and having my husband do it for me was really no better.

Now, when I want to put them in my left eye, I look in the mirror and tilt my head to the right. Then with my left hand I gently pull my lower eyelid down and squeeze the eyedrops in with my right hand, right into the cup of my lower lid. Then I blink to distribute the liquid over my entire eye. Right eye, the same, tilt my head to left, gently pull my lower lid down to form a cup for the drops and squeeze them in with my right hand (I'm right handed).

Honestly, since I've been doing it this way it's not a big thing at all like it used to be....works for me anyway, try it!

PS: Must've been typing during Nancy's reply, she's doing it just like I do.

That's the only way to go. Also 'prime' the dropper.

Meaning. Squeeze it so that one drop is showing at the outlet of the dropper. Then when it hits your eyelid it will drop right in and just keep squeezing.

I had a cataract operation and I had to do my own drops because I live alone.

One more thing. Clean your eyelids before you start with water and a clean tissue. You have to avoid any kind of infection. And wash your hands as well.

My mother was crazy phobic about her eyes, and when she had to have drops after an injury, I would go to her home and make her lie on her sofa. Then I would put enough of my weight on her chest to hold her down while I pried her eye open.

After I left that part of the country, she had cataract surgery. I regret that I never asked what she did about the eye drops that always seemed to be required post-surgery. My sister wouldn't have done what I did, so she must have found someone else to do it for her.
