From the article: "Imagine the vast expanse of the world’s oceans. Now, picture an underwater realm three times that size, not across the globe’s surface, but tucked away deep beneath it, at a depth of 700 kilometers. This isn’t the plot of a sci-fi novel but the startling discovery made by a team of scientists, unraveling the mysteries of our planet’s water origins."
A Gigantic Ocean Discovered 700km Beneath The Earth's Surface

Fascinating! My dead husband worked as a Nuclear Power Plant Equipment Operator for many years and he was always sure of something he had learned on the job- that there is only one amount of water on the earth= be it steam, rain, ice, snow ,etc, and this scientific find of more water makes sense- because they say the glaciers are melting and the earth is heating up every year but maybe this reveals that the amount of water , in any form ,on our planet is not threatened by climate change. But how hard would it be to utilize this water if needed?

Then again- their might be more to this info than I know.

Where I live there is plenty of water below the surface, in underground rivers.

My well is 95 feet deep but my neighbor's , a dairy farmer, is over 150 deep. It is a very interesting subject.

Professor Steven Jacobsen that they refer to as the researcher has his publications listed and linked here:
Steven Jacobsen: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences - Northwestern University
Some aren't accessible without a login, some are. I didn't check them all.
I think the specific paper is this one:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/263069116_Earth's_interior_Dehydration_melting_at_the_top_of_the_lower_mantle
I looked at that, but it doesn't say anything about vast quantities. I think it's long been known that subduction of ocean seafloor due to continental drift has brought hydrated minerals deep into the mantle. When molten lava hits it you get explosive volcanoes like mount St. Helens.

I suspect the OP's original article was purposely exaggerated to gain clicks.

I can easily guess that many billions of years from now, when the Earth has lost a great deal of O2 from the Atmosphere to space
Vastness, Hydrogen will also go. Thus, a ball of Natural gas gradually going back to rock / Coal and Volcanic gunk. Thus, a very
nasty place to camp out on. The Sol much bigger and hotter also.. So then Mars will warm up lots & so, Musk's plan to terror "the People," forming them to live on mars would work.

Thus, forming a really crazy group of habitants living hell like lives the rest of the Sun's final days.

The total amount of groundwater on our planet, held in rock and soil below our feet, is estimated to be 23 million cubic kilometers 12. This vast underground reservoir contains three times as much water as all of Earth’s oceans combined! 🌊💧

While we often think of the oceans as the primary source of Earth’s water, it turns out that most of our planet’s water may actually be locked away deep underground. This hidden water resides in a layer known as the transition zone, approximately 400 miles (700 kilometers) below the Earth’s surface. Here’s how it was discovered:

Ringwoodite: Scientists found evidence of water in a mineral called ringwoodite, which is chemically similar to peridot (a green gemstone). Ringwoodite had previously been found only in meteorites and was discovered in a diamond ejected from a volcano in 2008. The ringwoodite samples came from the transition zone between the upper and lower mantle.
Seismic Waves: Researchers monitored seismic waves generated by earthquakes. These waves change velocity depending on the material they pass through. By measuring these changes, geologists mapped what lies beneath the Earth’s surface. They detected signs of wet ringwoodite in the transition zone, where the intense heat and pressure cause the trapped water to be squeezed out. Imagine rock “sweating” water along its grain boundaries!
Mind-Boggling Amount: If all the ringwoodite in the transition zone is as damp as the samples detected, it would hold three times as much water as all of Earth’s oceans combined. This discovery significantly alters our understanding of where Earth’s water comes from and how it has been present throughout our planet’s history.
So next time you gaze at the blue expanse of the oceans, remember that there’s an even greater reservoir of water hidden beneath our feet, deep within the Earth’s rocky embrace. 🌎🔍💦

It most likely meant the water is not free down there to flow, its chemically combined like stone. to minerals etc. ____________________________________
