Interest anecdote about Juliet Gordon Low, as was told to me by a docent in Savannah, GA:
When Juliet was a child, the Civil War was raging. Her father was serving in the Confederate Army at the time. When General Sherman swept into Savannah, he called on the Low household to see how they were doing, as he was a friend of Juliet's mother's family up North.
General Sherman had an aide who had lost an arm and when little Juliette was brought out to meet the General, she asked the aide what was wrong with his arm. He replied that a Yankee had shot it off. Juliette proudly pronounced, "Well, it must have been my Daddy 'cause my Daddy has shot a LOT of Yankees!!!" Little Juliette was promptly whisked off, not to be seen for the rest of the visit.
